AB  - Many authors affirm that to have the information technology area aligned with strategic
business goals is vital to generate competitive advantages and increase productivity for
the company. Therefore, the strategic alignment has been for the past thirty years one of
the biggest concerns of CIOs (Chief Information Officer).
The study developed in this document presents a proposal of a model of correlation of the
competences of Chief Information Officer and the level of IT strategic alignment. It begins
with the theoretical foundation of the models most widely used of strategic alignment and
the organizational competency model. Then it´s selected the alignment maturity model to
use as a base and identified the key competencies that the CIO should have. This is used
as an input to specify the correlation model through is possible to identify the level of
development required in the skills of the CIO so that he enables the achievement of
the maturity levels of IT strategic alignment with the business. Finally, the results obtained
of the model validation with experts are presented. The document ends with the
conclusions and recommendations for future projects.
