AB  - In the chapters of this descriptive study, the authors proposed a theoretical scheme that allowed to support the purpose of this project to design a projected Foreign Trade Observatory as a strategic academic body for ICESI University. This investigation was enriched by the experiences of FTO [1] at global and national level, where we analyzed its mission, organizational structure, objectives, services and products and also the sustainability of the same in the long term. Finally, we must emphasize that the proposal for an FTO is part of a theoretical model outlined here, which is generic and does not include operational guidelines for the operation of an FTO. This proposal should be seen as a conceptual reference of the most important points to consider in the implementation of the ideal observatory.
