The purpose of this study is to present a review of research on quality management in Latin-American
and Spanish journals published between 2005 and 2013. The study considers managerial focused
research written in Spanish or English. The classification of the research considers three elements:
the research methodology, the type of application/business sector that served as the basis of the study,
and the specific quality management tools/topics addressed by the study. The analysis reveals that although
there is significant interest in research related to international standards and the implementation
of quality management systems, subjects such as quality management systems based on six sigma methodologies
have not received much attention. The study concludes with a discussion of future areas of
high potential research that have not generated much discussion.
