Network address management in a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) is a particular challenge due to the unique operating conditions of such networks, their dynamic topology, and the events that take place inside them. This chapter presents a proposal for solving the address management problem in a MANET by applying the self-organization and emergency principles governing the behavior of social insect colonies, particularly ant colonies.Ítem A novel approach to optimal resource allocation in HETnets based on the CINR requested by users(IEEE, 2013-09-08) Pachon De La Cruz, AlvaroThis paper presents an approach for solving the resource allocation problem in heterogeneous networks (HETnets). An optimization model is formulated; its main objective is to achieve the best Quality of Service (QoS) measured by the Carrier to Interference Noise Ratio (CINR). This model is a quadratically constrained optimization problem with continuous and boolean variables. It is solved by an approximation by a sequence of linear optimization problems and a judicious allocation of frequency blocks. It attempts to satisfy the CINR values required by users and demanded by modern standards in data transmission. Theoretically, the model can detect whenever the system cannot fulfill the CINR required, in which case, its solution offers the service provider an allocation of resources that yields a good index of performance. This is reported in numerical simulations that resemble real scenarios of HETnets. The approach configures, in a flexible way, the exploration of the search space, the strategy of frequency block allocation to users, and the solution considered as acceptable by the service provider. © 2013 IEEE.Ítem Protocol for evaluation of suitability of the copper twisted-pair access network for the IPTV service(IEEE, 2012-05-16) Pachon De La Cruz, AlvaroWith the development of different broadband technologies in access, there is the greatest technological breakthrough that allows providing various services through it (convergence). Appear and telecom operators currently providing voice and data services by the traditional copper pair, and wishing to provide services such as IPTV, but have limited ability to transfer data in access. This technical limitation requires assessing the access network as a prerequisite and essential for the provision of a service through a process, a verification of the parameters versus standards and / or vendor specifications and measurement technology, for this reason it has decided address this important issue in this work. For the operator from a technical perspective, marketing and service support is of utmost importance to have the assurance that the service will be deployed and supported within the operating parameters suggested by the standards and providers.Ítem Resource Allocation in OFDMA as an Optimization Problem(IGI Global, 2014-08-01) García Palomares, UbaldoWireless mobile communication systems (WMCS) face the challenge of satisfying the requirements of an increasing number of users demanding diverse services. WMCS service providers have multiple challenges: increasing number of users, full satisfaction of service requirements, and introduction of new technologies. Adequate resource management becomes a key factor for guaranteeing a successful relationship between service provider and users, for meeting system performance goals, and to achieve financial sustainability.Ítem Service Development Model in Intelligent Transportation Systems for Colombian Cities(Universidad Icesi, 2015-07-01) Montoya, Dorancé; Liscano, Tomás A.; Pachon De La Cruz, AlvaroMobility and transportation are the keys to a competitive city. There is a close relationship between the development of a transportation infrastructure and the economic growth of a city. Efficient transportation improves the live of citizens and brings production centers closer to markets, thus favoring commerce. This article presents a model for the planning and deployment of services in the Intelligent Transportation System [ITS] of Colombian cities. This model takes regulations, frameworks and standards into account. The planning and deployment of a traveler information service is shown as a practical application. An experimental prototype of this service is currently being tested at three locations in Cali, Colombia.
