This systematized study explores the impact of integrating socio-cultural elements—understood as traditions, values, practices, and perspectives from Hispanic communities—into Spanish language instruction in a third-grade immersion classroom in the United States. Based on sociolinguistic theories from authors like Dell Hymes and James Paul Gee, the teaching unit Discovering Hispanic Culture was created to strengthen students’ comprehension, motivation, and participation. Cultural integration here refers to the intentional inclusion of meaningful content such as myths, legends, storytelling, and intercultural exchanges that represent the voices and experiences of Hispanic cultures. Using a qualitative approach and systematic reflection, data was gathered through classroom observations, student work, surveys, and teacher journals. The results show that including cultural content in language instruction increased students’ engagement, improved their oral and written communication in Spanish, and helped them feel more connected to the language. The process also supported professional growth by encouraging more reflective planning, the creation of culturally relevant materials, and new ways of teaching that respond better to students’ diverse backgrounds. This study shows how culture-based instruction can make language learning more meaningful and relevant, especially when guided by sociolinguistic perspectives.eng
