Resumen
This paper brings out the findings of a noteworthy work that contributes with new perceptions in relation to the secularization process of the Colombian judicial oath along the nineteenth century. Based on primary and secondary sources, it examines the oath´s worth as a guarantor of truth within the cultural purpose´s framework of judicial process. It also reflects on the political and judicial evolution of oath in Modernity, and recalls its slow development from the religious practice of oath towards the secularized pledge, inside the Colombian´s judicial proceedings. In addition, it makes known the strong relationship between religion and the procedural oath; therefore contributing to the identification of the most important characteristic of the jurisprudence practices existing in the nineteenth-century.
