| spa |
| dc.description.abstract | This action research project explores the impact of phonological awareness training on improving interpersonal communicative interactions among tenth-grade students at a public high school in Medellin, Colombia. Despite national initiatives to promote English proficiency, many Colombian students, particularly in public schools, struggle with oral communication due to limited pronunciation training and considerable levels of foreign language anxiety (FLA). Grounded in socio-cultural and phonological processing theories, this study aimed to bridge the gap by integrating a ten-week intervention focused on phonological awareness training regarding English pronunciation. Using qualitative methodology framed within Kemmis and McTaggart action research cycle, the intervention engaged 96 students through contextualized activities like rhyming, syllable segmentation, minimal pairs and communicative tasks. A purposive sample of seven students was assessed through pre and posttests, surveys, classroom observations and field diaries. results show notable improvements in phonological accuracy, speech intelligibility, and student’s confidence in initiating conversation using English language. The findings suggest that systematic phonological awareness training not only enhances pronunciation but also fosters communicative competence and reduces FLA. The results highlight the pedagogical value of embedding phonological instruction in the EFL curriculum to support more meaningful and confident use of English in real-life contexts. | eng |
