    The model of Basu and Van (1998) raises the luxury axiom according to which parents use child labor as a strategy to escape poverty. From this approach , if the economy is in a situation of multiple equilibria, it may happen that the application of the laws prohibiting child labor lead to a deterioration in household welfare, increasing poverty levels, reinforcing the status of vulnerability of young workers. Using data from the National Survey of Quality of Life (Colombia, 2012), we estimates a multinomial logit model to test empirically which are indeed the factors that lead children to do some of the following activities: work, study, do both activities or not perform any.
