Ítem La vinculación de descendientes a la empresa familiar. Un estudio de casos colombianos(Universidad Icesi, 2009-02-25) Lozano Posso, Melquicedec; Urbano Pulido, DavidThis research focuses on the stage of offspring entry to the family business. This stage connects the entire professional and personal experiences that the potential successor has had previously to his entrance to the family business and all the responsibilities he will have in the early period of his (her) integration in the family business. Frequently this stage is analyzed as one-dimensional stage, but it is clear through this research that it is more a process with many factors affecting it. To study these factors, the analysis of four detailed Colombian family business cases was done. The results give evidence about the mode, the timing and the motivations, as fundamental factors in the decision of entry to the family business, moreover identifies the main proposals related to the offspring decision to become an employee of the family business. It suggests to the owners of family business and the offspring to examine this entry dimensions inside of the preparation process of the following generations.Ítem Elementos del proceso de formación de descendientes antes de su vinculación a la empresa familiar: Un estudio de casos Colombianos(Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, 2008-09-01) Lozano Posso, MelquicedecTo attend a gap in the existing literature, this research explores what the children or the children's children currently involved in the family business had to experience before they entered the business on a full-time basis. In the article, that stage is called formation process. Supported by a qualitative methodology, the study of four cases of Colombian family businesses shows that three dimensions of formation and five influencing elements comprise that stage. The three dimensions of formation are formation in values, formation in knowledge, and formation in leadership. The five influencing elements in forming descendents are the family, the business, the market, the descendents themselves, and the society. Aided by the perspective of succession, as well as by those of resources and capabilities, the study arguments contribute to creating a framework for future research on succession in family businesses, in particular regarding the formation of descendents or regarding later stages, such as the involvement and feeling of ownership that come with the first full-time position.
