This article revisits the classic essay “Citizenship and Social Class” by Thomas Humphrey Marshall, first published in 1950. Its objective is to explore Marshall’s possible
contributions to the issues of citizenship in current societies. In this sense, the questions
that it seeks to answer is whether or not Marshall and his work in current debates about
citizenship, despite the fact that said debates are being dominated by issues such as political participation, recognition, the construction of identity, difference and cultural and
gender discrimination.
