Ítem La suerte de un clásico: el caso de Thomas Humphrey Marshall(Universidad Icesi, 2014-01-01) Silva Vega, RafaelThis article revisits the classic essay “Citizenship and Social Class” by Thomas Humphrey Marshall, first published in 1950. Its objective is to explore Marshall’s possible contributions to the issues of citizenship in current societies. In this sense, the questions that it seeks to answer is whether or not Marshall and his work in current debates about citizenship, despite the fact that said debates are being dominated by issues such as political participation, recognition, the construction of identity, difference and cultural and gender discrimination.Ítem Cuerpos y territorios vaciados ¿En qué consiste el paradigma de la diferencia? ¿Cómo pensamos la diferencia?(Universidad Icesi, 2014-02-01) Vergara Figueroa, AuroraThis article presents a reflection on the paradigm of difference and its implications for everyday social relationships mediated through ethnic-racial, sexual, gender and class issues. It describes how some of the most strongly held beliefs of human beings take shape during the socialization process. Additionally, it proposes the concepts “Emptied Bodies” and “Emptied Territories” as analytical categories to discern the implications of imposing prejudices and stereotypes on realtionships, and to make explicit how the act of not thinking critically about difference entails the denial of others. In conclusion, it posits the argument that to conceive difference is to allow to live and let live, as long as these actions do not imply invalidating the existence of others.Ítem I’ve killed and I’ve robbed. I’m a man!: The Brazilian Racialized ImagiNation and the Making of Black Masculinity in “City of God”(Universidad Icesi, 2014-01-01) Alves, Jaime AmparoThe article explores the representation of young-black men in the 2002 film City of God. The film deploys “pathological scripts” of Black masculinity in Brazil as criminal and deviant. The controlling image of Black men’s bodies as a source of danger and impurity sustains Brazilian regime of racial domination, and the narratives of violence make explicit the ways in which the Brazilian nation is imagined though a racial underpinning. Blackness is consumed as an exotic commodity, yet is also understood as a threat to national harmony. The nation is, then, written and re-imagined as a racial paradise, but mostly by inscribing death on the black bodyÍtem Libertad positiva y negativa(Universidad Icesi, 2014-01-01) MacCallum, GeraldThis paper challenges the view that we may usefully distinguish between two kinds or concepts of political and social freedom –negative and positive. The argument is not that one of these is the only, the “truest”, or the “most worthwhile” freedom, but rather that the distinction between them has never been made sufficiently clear, is based in part upon a serious confusion, and has drawn attention away from precisely what needs examining if the difference separating philosophers, ideologies, and social movements concerned with freedom are to be understood. The corrective advised is to regard freedom as always one and the same triadic relation, but recognize that various contending parties disagree with each other in what they understand to be the ranges of the term variables. To view the matter in this way is to release oneself from a prevalent but unrewarding concentration on “kinds” of freedom, and to turn attention toward the truly important issues in this area of social and political philosophy.Ítem Aportes para una interpretación de la ética de las consecuencias en vista de un proyecto de ciudadanía(Universidad Icesi, 2014-01-01) Carmona Sánchez, Luis AlbertoThis article aims to provide a basis for interpreting the ethics of consequences from the perspectives of Richard Hare, Stephen Toulmin, and G. W. F. Hegel. This exercise will serve as a call for interdisciplinary dialogue that would contribute to a systematic overview of the ethics of consequences based on reason and Recognition. Methodologically, the work is a result of qualitative interpretation and archival research. The article takes an interdisciplinary approach toward the subject, seeking to contribute conceptually to a possible interpretation of the ethics of consequence.Ítem Democratización de la educación superior en Colombia: un análisis exploratorio(Universidad Icesi, 2014-01-01) López Rodríguez, María del PilarThis article addresses the topic of the democratization of higher education, presenting a description of both its quantitative and qualitative aspects. This phenomenon is viewed as a process of the social transformation of teaching that seeks to expand access to higher education through the equal and equitable distribution of various educational opportunities. Through the application of principal component and cluster analyses, the Colombian departments are ordered and categorized according to their level of democratization, finding that Bogotá and Caquetá respectively exhibited the best regional performances quantitatively and qualitatively-speaking.Ítem Obligaciones morales con seres no humanos(Universidad Icesi, 2014-01-01) Ocampo, RodrigoThere exist five models of ethical reflection from which it is possible to take into account the debate surrounding the topic of the relationships between human beings and non-humans: the deontological, the contractualist, the utilitarian, the neo-Aristotilian and the discursive models. This article will examine, based upon these five models, the question of the moral status assigned to animals and to nature, along with the possibility of each to support the extension of moral obligations. Toward this end, it will examine the central arguments for recognizing or negating moral considerations to non-human life forms as well as the scope of these arguments in order to understand the configuration and the limits of the ethical community. This will then allow for the classification of the aforementioned ethical approaches taking into account their links to various forms of anthropocentrism or biocentrism.Ítem Una mirada a las prácticas de anticorrupción de las organizaciones adheridas al Pacto Global en Colombia(Universidad Icesi, 2014-01-01) Duque Orozco, Yenni; Vargas Bernal, Diana FernandaThe current study has as its objective identifying anti-corruption practices in the member organizations of the Global Compact in Colombia that can be classified as Advanced. This will be achieved through the analysis of the Communication on Progress (COPs) documents presented by these organizations. The results of this analysis show that the organizations should continue working on the topic of anti-corruption in three aspects -internal, external and collective- and additionally demonstrate that the disclosure of their anti-corruption practices must be exhaustive.Ítem Ciudadanía protestante y disidencia moral: el papel de la prensa religiosa en el debate sobre las libertades religiosas durante 1946 y 1953(Universidad Icesi, 2014-01-01) Villamil, EdwinThis work analyzes the religious press during the period 1946-1953 based on its influence on the configuration of an Evangelical citizenship, as well as from the perspective of its fight for religious freedom. Through archival review of the religious press during this period, it attempts to reconstruct the way in which Protestants (a religious minority) and Evangelicals were represented and how they elucidated, through moral discourse, the historical conditions that they had to face in this period.Ítem Dialogo e inclusión:una decisión moral(Universidad Icesi, 2014-01-01) Medina Botero, HernánThis article presents some of the characteristic features which, in the context of deliberative politics, can be highlighted within the inclusive function of dialogue as suggested by authors such as Jürgen Habermas and Richard Rorty. In addition to reviewing the ideas of these authors, it will demonstrate that the process of inclusion cannot be achieved simply through dialogue, but that a conscious decision must be made that leads to a broadening of moral and conversational limitations in order to make inclusion possible. This type of decision is exemplified by the peace talks between the Colombian government and the guerrillas of the FARC in Havana, Cuba.Ítem La ética del discurso ante el desafío del (neo)populismo en Latinoamérica y la radicalización de la democracia(Universidad Icesi, 2014-01-01) Duque Acosta, Carlos AndrésThis work explores the possible incompatibility between two ways of understanding contemporay ethico-political phenomena related to the conditions of the possibility of Radical Democracy in contemporary Latin America: Jürguen Habermas’s ethics of discourse and Ernesto Laclau’s notion of politics as a hegemonic construction in a (neo-)populist context. The aim of this exercise is to illustrate the possibility of said incompatibility through examining the case of the administration of Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa.Ítem Lo ético-político en las democracias contemporáneas. Reflexiones críticas en torno al déficit normativo en la teoría de la hegemonía de Ernesto Laclau(Universidad Icesi, 2014-01-01) Fair, HernánThis article presents a critical reflection on the philosophical principles of the postMarxist perspective on hegemony of Ernesto Laclau. The text focuses on one of its most problematic aspects, that of the normative deficit in his theory of political identities. It additionally suggests, with Laclau’s positing of radical and pluralistic democracy serving as a starting point, some theoretical concepts for analyzing the politico-ethical in contemporary democracies.
