Active Learning and CDIO Implementation in Colombia

In this paper we discuss common problems in Colombian universities in regard to engineering professional programs. We also discuss the reasons to implement a curriculum reform following the CDIO model at Icesi University, and present some preliminary results of implementing this reform, mainly concerning student motivation and attrition reduction The adoption of CDIO model is aimed not only to offer a integral engineering education, increase the quality of our programs, establishing a cycle of continuous improvement and also to encourage students by offering a challenging curriculum that focuse s its professional component on solving engineering problems.
Análisis espectral de parámetros fisiológicos para detección de emociones

This paper show a literature review in the field of emotions detection. Show the strength of aplications of Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI) and what the functionality of it is. Explain how work with neourosignal and how to extract information using Discrete Wavelet Transform to recognize some characteristics that are present in the signal. Also explain the methods which are used for classification the signals. The purpose of the review is established a basis for the development of a project which want define the behavior of brain signal's when a person sees a commercial advertisement.
An Approach to the Implementation Process of CDIO

The implementation of integrated curricula following the CDIO recommendations may result in natural and straightforward processes for mature universities. Nevertheless, a CDIO-based curricular reform can result in an overwhelming and error-prone process when universities lack experience in the consolidation of curricula that naturally integrate disciplinary learning outcomes with engineering skills. In this paper we propose a general and replicable approach to the implementation and continual improvement of integrated curricula based on CDIO; and report on our experience and lessons learned during the redefinition of the curricula of the Telematics Engineering and Computing Systems Engineering programs at Universidad Icesi, in Colombia.

Se habla sobre las iniciativas de ciudades digitales,que persiguen dos objetivos que muchas veces se confunden. El primer objetivo es dar conectividad pública a la red mundial de Internet a una gran masa de la población, estas las podemos clasificar como proyectos de conectividad. Un segundo objetivo, busca facilitar a los ciudadanos la información y los trámites necesarios en su relación con la administración municipal. Las iniciativas que siguen este último, las podemos llamar como proyectos de gobierno electrónico o gobierno en línea.
Combining spectral and fractal features for emotion recognition on Electroencephalographic signals

Recent studies have attempted to recognize emotions by extracting spectral and fractal features from electroencephalographic signals; however, up to now none of them have combined these two features to recognize emotions. This paper aims at providing a comparison between an accuracy rate of an approach that recognizes emotions by extracting both spectral and fractal features with that of those that extract only one of these features. To this end, we designed and implemented a procedure that recognizes positive and negative emotions by extracting spectral, fractal, or both features. Next, using this procedure, we built three different approaches to recognize positive and negative emotions; the first one extracted both spectral and fractal features, whereas the other two extracted each type of feature separately.

Helps to use further the control frameworks, standards and regulations for a proper implementation of these in his organization to align IT with the corporate governance.
Proceso de implementación de CDIO en programas de tecnologías de información y comunicaciones

CDIO framework aims to improve the quality of programs that adopt it, setting standards for comprehensive training and defining a process of continuous improvement of curricula. Adopting CDIO implies a comprehensive reform to engineering curricula, including changes in teaching methodologies, evaluation of the learning process, and workspaces, among others. This paper presents the experience of implementing CDIO in two programs in the area of information and communications technologies (ICT). The implementation process was developed with the intention of improving the quality of engineering education, and in response to common problems in Latin America in these areas, particularly in the case of Colombia. Preliminary results are discussed, these are related to student motivation and dropout reduction, focusing on the experience during the implementation of the recommendations of CDIO programs in Systems Engineering and Telematics Engineering.

Spectral Analysis of physiological parameters for emotion detection

Una propuesta para la construcción de rankings de programas de pregrado en Colombia: los casos de ingeniería industrial y de sistemas

This document presents a proposal for using Standardized-exit exams to rank undergraduate programs. The proposed takes into account each program's mean score, volatility, students' proportion with scores above the national mean, and the number of students taking the exam. The document presents an application of the suggested index for two different programs in Colombia: Software Engineering and Industrial Engineering. The results show that five out of the top ten Industrial Engineering and Industrial Engineering programs are located in Bogota (the capital). On the other hand, 40% of the top ten Industrial Engineering and Software Engineering programs are offered by public schools. Finally, 60% of the top twenty Software Engineering programs hold a high quality accreditation. For Industrial Engineering programs 70% of the top twenty programs have the high quality accreditation. Future studies will determine the robustness of the proposed indicator to changes in its weights and its application to other professional programs and topics in standardized tests. However, this proposal represents an effort to process the results of standardized exams to provide information that can be used to compare educational programs and hence, for the assessment and formulation of educational policy.
