Llegó la escasez y mandó a parar: Estudio de Caso(Universidad Icesi, 2011-07-30T18:40:54Z) De la Cruz, Wilson Yhovanni; López Astudillo, Andrés; Restrepo, Neira Davidia; Orrego Ortiz, SigifredoThe primary objective of this case study is to discuss how a company can address environmental concerns raised by regional environmental regulatory authorities using a strategic industrial ecology for the purpose of ensuring the future sustainable development of the company. It places emphasis on the fact that, despite being the most important tactical asset in the operations of most companies, water resources are ignored and seen ad inexhaustible. Hence, this article focuses on providing a new background to this discussion, by making a comparison to determine which growth strategy yields better performance and profitability. To this end, the study concentrated on the analysis of 38 Chilean economic groups selected by simple random sampling. The main result of this research study is that concentrated economic groups achieve increased profitability and performance as compared with diversified groups, but have a greater variation in their profit.Ítem Intención de los estudiantes de la universidad icesi hacia la creación de empresa(Universidad Icesi, 2011-07-30T18:32:52Z) Martínez Romero, Ana Carolina; Peña Guevara, Alba Tatiana; Varela Villegas, RodrigoThis article presents and analyzes the results, for Colombia, of a crosscultural research study of entrepreneurial intentions conducted between Gasse and Tremblay (2009) at the University of Laval in Canada and professors at Icesi University, based on a review of samples of students from Canada, France, Tunisia, and Colombia. In the case of Colombia, a review was conducted of the perceptions, values, and attitudes of undergraduate students taking mandatory and elective Entrepreneurship courses at Icesi University in the first semester of 2009. The results make it possible to evaluate the students’ behaviors in relation to the entrepreneurial process and provide the basis of conclusions relative to the educational process implemented at Icesi University.Ítem Asociación significativa entre los modos de conversión de conocimiento y los modelos de decisión en las mipymes de cali-colombia(Universidad Icesi, 2011-07-30T18:29:44Z) González González, PatriciaThe article seeks to determine the ciations between the generation of knowledge regarding tacit-explicit knowledge conversion and rational, political, and anarchic process-based decision-making models. To this end, a survey was conducted among 270 managers of micro, small, or mediumsized enterprises (MSMEs) registered with the Cali Chamber of Commerce. The methodology involved using a chi-square test to establish association levels based on an analysis of dichotomous contingency tables. The results obtained made it possible to sociations between the conversion of knowledge and decision-making models in the companies under review.Ítem ¿Cómo son los consumidores del mercado de las mayorías en venezuela? : una aproximación a la construcción del perfil psicográfico(Universidad Icesi, 2011-07-30T01:16:38Z) López Di Blasi, Sabina; Puente Castro, RaquelThis investigation thoroughly discusses a profile of low-income consumers based on an understanding of their environment, everyday life, values, aspirations, and the dynamics of their purchasing and consumption habits. An ethnographic study of households was conducted in which sixty eight interviews were carried out among consumers at low socioeconomic levels in Venezuela. The main finding underline the fact that there are differences that would allow segmentation of these consumers into two groups. “I’m not doing bad and I’m improving” and “I’m not doing well, and I can’t see a way out of this”. Despite these differences, both groups share important similarities in relation to such values as family, solidarity, and honesty, and the conviction that success comes through education and work.Ítem Concentración de la producción de las industrias culturales en cali(Universidad Icesi, 2011-07-30T01:13:04Z) Alonso Cifuentes, Julio César; Ríos Millán, Ana MaríaThe main objective of this article is to examine the market structures within cultural industries based in Cali, Colombia. Using the descriptive capacity of two of the most commonly used measures of concentration in this type of analysis, namely, the Hirschman-Herfindahl index and the Rosenbluth index. The kind of microeconomic analysis presented in this article is novel in two ways. First, it provides information on market structures of the subsectors of cultural industries at a municipal level. Secondly, it discusses the dynamic behavior of the concentration of production in a given year. Evidence available in literature at the time of writing suggests that this is the first such analysis of cultural industries.Ítem El cambio en la organización: un estudio teórico desde la perspectiva de control externo(Universidad Icesi, 2011-07-30T01:10:14Z) Zapata Rotundo, Gerardo J.; Mirabal Martínez, AlbertoThis article is aimed at the analysis of three theoretical models that explain organizational change processes from the perspective of external control, namely, the contingency theory; the resource dependence theory; and the population ecology theory. The theoretical-descriptive work, based on a rigorous literature review, made it possible to provide a framework of propositions with a view to integrating common aspects of the aforementioned theories and providing insights for understanding change in light of surrounding circumstances. The most relevant conclusions show that the various models are complementary to each other and provide an explanation of the impact of change on structural design, behavior, and organizational performance from various perspectives.Ítem Análisis empírico de la relación entre la actividad económica y la violencia homicida en colombia(Universidad Icesi, 2011-07-30T01:07:48Z) Dueñas Herrera, Ximena; Carranza Romero, Juan Esteban; González Espitia, Carlos GiovanniThe goal of this article is to examine the causal relationship between murders and economic activity in Colombia during the last decades. This analysis draws on the fact that economic activity in other Latin American countries is highly correlated with economic activity in Colombia, but is not affected by homicidal violence in Colombia. The use of this instrument allows us to establish a strong causal effect of economic activity on murders. An analysis of time series provides further support for the hypothesis that there is a long-term relationship between murders and economic activity.Ítem Posibilidades, logros y desafíos en la implementación de modelos de calidad en los gobiernos latinoamericanos(Universidad Icesi, 2011-04-01T01:04:50Z) Frogoso Torres, JaimeThis article provides a review of the meaning and scope of the concept of quality as applied to the meaning and scope of the concept of quality as applied to the state and its role in the administrative paradigm known as new public management. It concludes with a recommendation for the use of quality-based philosophies as a requirement to modernize the public sector.Ítem La innovación como competencia central en la internacionalización de las firmas latinoamericanas: el proceso de Bico Internacional, empresa del Grupo Carvajal S.A.(Universidad Icesi, 2011-07-30T01:01:25Z) Ríos Millán, Ana María; Solano Castillo, Natalia; Ochoa Díaz, Francisco HéctorBico International is a Colombian company that has set new trends in the internalization of its operations. This article presents a case study concerning Bico’s experience in Colombia and abroad. It is complemented by the application of theoretical models such as the theories by Prahalad and Hamel, Uppsala, and Johanson and Vahlne, and the model proposed by Stephen H. Rhinesmith, in order to explain the company’s market expansion process. It is concluded that Bico is a company that has not only a wide capacity to respond to the challenges of the local and international environments, but also a great ability to innovate with its products, the design of its organizational structure, and its marketing strategies.
