    This case study consolidates the process of redefining the brand architecture of Carvajal and its companies, in order to become a highly competitive company in a demanding environment, and, in his way, attract new investors, conquer and retain talent, and position itself as a multinational conglomerate capable of generating value for its shareholders. This would involve the refocusing and increasing the profitability of the existing businesses in different geographies, that go hand-in-hand with a rebranding strategy, to reflect this transformation and strengthen its position in the global market. This study is based on interviews and secondary sources based on organizational data, and studies that were conducted by consulting firms hired by the Carvajal.

    La organización empresarial como sistema adaptativo complejo

    The purpose of this document is to identify complexity adaptative systems (CAS) characteristics, as well as determining the implications of applying this to the study of organizations. A review was made of the results of investigations published in journals on the introduction of scientific complexity into the administration, as well as the results of research groups and institutes working on this topic. Based on comparative studies of the proposals observed, it is suggested that CASs may be understood from the emergence, self-organization, and evolution of a company. Understanding the organization from this outlook leads to lines of research on leadership, strategy, making decision-making, construction of joint actions, all in complex systems.

    The current economic environment has led to the need for companiesto act in the context of enterprise networks, given its influence on business competitiveness, particularly in SMEs, and their contribution to regional development. This has generated an interest among researchers to analyze these networks. This paper evaluates the impact of relationships between companies and institutions in business innovation in the department of Caldas (Colombia). The work is empirical and data is treated with econometric models (logit models). The results indicated that ties between firms to carry out R&D and technology transfer and knowledge have a positive influence on R&D and innovation within the company.

    La capacitación de ventas basada en inventarios críticos como determinante del apalancamiento operativo en farmacia comunitaria

    This paper quantifies the effects of sales training based in inventories critics on operating leverage in a retail pharmacist organization. Topics and training products were selected based on ABC classification critical inventory sorted by contribution margin. The effects of training were measured by optimizing the magnitude of operating leverage and the linear correlation results and sales components that make up the parameter. The case showed how sales training in critical products helps to maximize the operating leverage of a community retail pharmacy, in magnitude and volatility of its constituents, which can be extrapolated to other business sectors.

    Propuesta de un espacio multidimensional para la gestión por procesos. Un estudio de caso

    This article proposes a multidimensional space to control manage processes by integrating different views of the organization. The methodology for the development of the proposal is based on a qualitative research design, which is characterized through three activities: the definition of the multidimensional space from the perspectives of the enterprise architecture, the maturity model, and the organizational management. A conceptual experimental case study for a credit application was then carried out, which showed possible inter-relationships between the defined scales and elements. Finally, it was concluded that it is possible to establish standard characteristics for process management that guide the organization from different points of view, when faced with complex transformations.

    Calidad de vida y ciudad : análisis del nivel de desarrollo en Bogotá a través del método de necesidades básicas insatisfechas

    This work evaluates which variables characterize the level of development and life quality of communities living in different districts in Bogotá. In order to achieve this objective, information from 19 of these communities was collected. This information mainly included the development index known as composite indicator of Unsatisfied Basic Needs (NBI), and all its simple indicators. Correlation and principal component analysis were performed on the data collected, in order to analyze the information expressed by both the simple indicator Deficient sanitary conditions and NBI. The principal conclusion of the present project is that for global characterizations of urban populations, the variable Deficient sanitary conditions is sufficient to classify a population. Nevertheless, the composite NBI is a more appropriate indicator if a more specific characterization of the population is required.

    Ventajas y desventajas de la Sociedad por Acciones Simplificada para la empresa familiar en Colombia. Estudio exploratorio

    La Sociedad por Acciones Simplificada (SAS) representa la evolución más significativa del sistemasocietario colombiano en las últimas 4 décadas. Desde su aparición representa cerca del 90% del totalde sociedades matriculadas en el país. Este estudio exploratorio descriptivo busca determinar si losempresarios conocen las ventajas y desventajas de las SAS, y si las tienen en cuenta en la toma dedecisiones. Se aplicó un cuestionario estructurado a 57 empresas, de las cuales el 84% eran familia-res. Se observó un amplio desconocimiento de algunas ventajas y desventajas de la SAS que implicael desaprovechamiento de sus bondades y, en casos puntuales, riesgos para las empresas familiares.

    Relación entre el rendimiento y las estrategias de crecimiento en las sociedades anónimas chilenas

    La relación entre los resultados empresariales y la diversificación o concentración es un tema muy rele-vante, por lo que en este artículo se exponen las evidencias obtenidas al comparar el rendimiento obtenidopor 82 sociedades anónimas chilenas, seleccionadas al azar, con su estrategia de concentración o diversi-ficación. La metodología seguida implicó la clasificación de las estrategias mediante una matriz con baseen el Código Industrial Internacional Uniforme (CIIU) de Chile y la aplicación del método Du Pont parala determinación del resultado. La principal evidencia es que la mayoría son empresas concentradas,pero las sociedades con diversificación relacionada obtienen un mayor rendimiento promedio que lasempresas concentradas y que las compa¿nías con estrategia de diversificación no relacionada.

    Metodología para implantar el Modelo Integrado de Capacidad de Madurez en grupos pequeños y emergentes

    This article presents QualDev-Software Process Improvement (SPI), a specific methodology to help mana- gers of small and emerging business or internal software development departments to implement the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). The aim of this methodology is to increase competitive- ness of these groups by letting them offer more quality in their products, and have better productivity. QualDev-SPI is based on three principles: (i) small steps for improvement aligned with the develop- ment projects; (ii) lightweight processes supported by tools, and (iii) short term view of the benefits. The methodology includes an organizational improvement model, a matrix of levels of achievement of practices, and a road map with a standardized definition of processes and support tools to facilitate its implementation.

    La innovación en entornos económicos poco favorables: el sector auto partes mexicano

    The aim of this article is to demonstrate that the slightly favorable economic environmet is, often, the incentive for major innovations. From the critical realism perspective, ind-depth interviews were carried on key informants, and questionnaires were applied to a random simple of businessmen. The a typical cases were also analyzed. Among the principal results, it was shown that the lack of investment for research+development+innovation (R+D+I) in Mexico has led to the auto parts industry of Mexico losing competitiveness. Some smaller companies that innovated increased their competitiveness at international level. The conclusión is that innovation in conducting a business is fundamental, in order for the Company that it is in an unfavorable economic environment to increase its international competitiveness

    Políticas de diversidad y flexibilidad laboral en el marco de la responsabilidad social empresarial. Un análisis desde la perspectiva de género

    The objetive of this article is to determine whether women managers are more willing to support flexibility and diversity policies tha men. Diversity and flexibility variables were analyzed in a group of 57 business directores, and ANOVA statistical tests were applied. Results demonstrate that the service and commerce small and medium business sector managed by women tend to implement diversity and labor flexibility policies related to work Schedule and flexible work as part of their corporate social responsibility. On the contrary, the same type of business managed by men, do not tend to implement diversity and labor flexibility policies.

    Análisis de la implementación de programas de gestión del conocimiento en las empresas chilenas

    Knowledge management (KM) is a new discipline that facilitates the creation, storage, transfer, and use of knowledge in organizations. In articles methodologies, technologies and best practices of KM have often been mentioned, however very few of these studies have reviewed the real progress and the level of implementation of these practices, and the problems and difficulties to implement them in organizations. This paper seeks to explore the general state of the implementation of KM programs in the country, and to determine the main difficulties in developing such programs in organizations. A review is also presented of the technological KM tools used in Chilean companies and their development prospects in this new discipline. Six major problems for the adoption and implementation of KM programs are identified, and it is determined that while KM is known and valued in Chilean business, its adoption is still very low.

    The aim of this paper is to develop an audit proposal which is focused on the planning and design stage of compensation, to support the management related to compensation in public and private organizations. The methodology used for the audit program was based on the classic financial audit, which consist of three main aspects, attributes, risks and procedures. An extensive literature review is also presented, followed by a design of the planning stage of the compensation process. As a result, an audit program has been developed, which consists of a series of procedures to audit the compensation process

    En el presente documento se realiza un análisis de la situación de los principales clusters de Argentinay cómo estas estructuras asociativas pueden mejorar la generación de innovaciones y generar externa-lidades positivas para la comunidad. Lo anterior se realiza a través de un análisis de tipo descriptivo,abordando el objeto de investigación mediante el estudio de casos. Asimismo se aplicó un modelo degestión de conocimiento con el fin de evaluar los efectos de los clusters en la innovación y la creación deconocimiento valioso. Como conclusión se pudo demostrar la importancia del apoyo institucional desdelas políticas públicas, las características estructurales que deben poseer los clusters y las acciones paradesarrollar el capital estructural, relacional y de innovación
