(Universidad Icesi, 2014-10-01) Graterol-López, Hortencia; Sigala-Paparella, Luis Eduardo
This paper studies the accelerated internationalization of Venezuelan firms, known as International New Ventures, in order to describe their features and capabilities, and then classify them and evaluate the qualities of their founders. As research methodology a 6 cases studies of production and service firms was conducted. As a conclusion, the International New Ventures from Venezuela exhibit similar features to those reported in the literature, but a distinctive aspect is that they seek anonymity and go unnoticed as much as possible. The complexity and uncertainty of the environment of the country, due to the changing rules of the government, and the great amount of trade regulations are good reasons for this behavior

The research objective is to identify differences in perceptions about organizational transparency from the perspective of the employee depending on the sector, size and coverage to which the company belongs. T-tests were performed in a group of companies in Mexico to measure the significant differences between the various groups of companies, finding that the company’s private sector and export profile tends to integrate in a more determined manner transparent practices that other companies or institutions. It is proposed that a citizen employee must be a key element within public and private organizations to increase organizational transparency.

(Universidad Icesi, 2014-10-01) Botero Botero, Sergio; Isaza Cuervo, Felipe
Strategic investment decisions in power markets are subject to high risk and uncertainty, therefore Real Options appear to be an appropriate tool to assess the decision-making processes in such markets. This paper presents a literature review, analyzing and classifying Real Options applications in power markets on investments and operation decisions; energy policy and programs. A synthetic application model is presented using binomial models to introduce wind power instead of coal fired plants according coal prices volatility. Finally it is concluded that Real Options improves the decision-making processes better than traditional methods, as it better captures the uncertainties of this kind of market.

(Universidad Icesi, 2014-10-01) Moroni, Lidia; Guillermo E., Dabos
Deviant and abusive behaviors in the workplace affect the organizational climate and cause employee commitment to deteriorate. Among them, low-severity deviant behaviors are the most difficult to detect, given that they occur in a subtle and subjective way by means of the successive social interactions between individuals at work. The organizational literature offers multiple constructs, with definitions and boundaries that often overlap, and thus hinder their adequate treatment. Based on a literature review, this study analyzes 14 different constructs referred to as low-severity deviant behaviors at work, with the purpose of identifying their underlying common dimensions and examining the factors that facilitate their occurrence, and dissemination within the organizational context. This review concludes by discussing its practical implications.

Beyond the internal dynamics of organizational responses to conflicting institutional demands
(Universidad Icesi, 2014-10-01) Gutiérrez Rincón, Viviana
This paper presents some reflections on strategic response models, in particular the models proposed by Pache, Santos and Oliver, and it evaluates their complementarity and differences, especially regarding the interactions between decision making and the possible strategic responses to institutional demands. It is argued that the theoretical contributions of Pache and Santos can be categorized under the dimension of utility, because they can enhance the potential to operationalize and test the model. However, the reflections made in this paper not only highlight the need to take into account other external and internal factors for the study of strategic responses, but also the integration of different linkages of the decision process with strategic responses to institutional demands.

This paper aims to test weak-form efficiency in the top five Latin American stock markets, using two approaches. Firstly, by evaluating the normality of the series using basic statistics, then by using the Jarque-Bera test and Chi-Square goodness of fit test, contrasting the RW1 (Runs test and BDS test), RW2 (Alexander filters with genetic algorithms) and RW3 (Ljung-Box test and Bartlett Interval) of the random walk (RW) of the assets. It was found that the five major Latin American economies studied have experienced a change from non-efficiency to market efficiency in recent years, according to the following chronological order: Mexico (2007), Brazil (2008), Colombia (2008), Chile (2011) and Peru (2012).

The purpose of this paper is to empirically test the impact on the performance of a company with use of information and communications technology (ICT). To do this 1,201 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Colombia were studied. They were asked about use of eight ICT tools for web environment, and their performance both globally, and specifically in its profitability, market share, internal processes, human relations and relationships with the environment. The results obtained, through multiple linear regressions, show that the use of ICT generates a largely positive impact in all the performance factors observed. These findings are useful for entrepreneurs, and organizations that promote knowledge and development of MSMEs

Collaboration and information sharing in dyadic supply chains: A literature review over the period 2000–2012
    (Universidad Icesi, 2014-10-01) Ortiz-Vargas, Diego A.; Montoya-torres, Jairo R.
Information sharing and coordination between the agents of a supply chain are considered to be an effective strategy for improving its global performance. This paper presents an updated review of current literature examining the impacts of information sharing and collaboration strategies on supply chain dynamic performance, with particular focus on dyadic structure. To achieve this, a systematic review approach is followed over the period 2000–2012, intending to ensure that the process is reproducible and auditable. A comprehensive taxonomy is also presented, highlighting strategic and operational impacts of collaborative structures. The analysis revealed that collaborative and information sharing issues underlined 10 years ago still require further attention from researchers.

In this document the Edgeworth expansion is used in the Black-Scholes model for estimating the implicit volatility and the impact of the higher order stochastic moments on the option price, over Grupo Financiero Galicia (GGAL) stock options contracts trading in the Buenos Aires Stocks Exchange (Argentina). First, the underlying probability distribution of returns is analysed; then the model is subject to iteration to obtain implicit values for volatility, skewnness and kurtosis. The main conclusions are the flat shape of the volatility curve of the model, and the significant weight of the skewnnes and kurtosisof the «in the money, out of the money» prices

Industrial restructuring in Colombia has its origin as a policy initiative, seeking to modernize and prepare its operations, due to the entry of competitors attracted by the change in the economic model. The authors attempt to explain the major changes and transformations arising in the process of industrial restructuring of the country, particularly the case of Acerías Paz del Río (steelworks), by implementing a hermeneutical method and technique of document analysis. As a result of the review, it can be established that the conversion processes are related to forms of organizational management and re-arrangement of the capital structure of the company. For the company Acerías the conversion process would be an important leverage for its survival, despite the difficulties faced by the company management

The objective of this article is to analyze the 183 quality indicators established by the National Accreditation Committee (Consejo Nacional de Acreditación) of Colombia, and to propose more relevant, essential or crucial indicators using Atlas Ti5. Three hermeneutic units were used to get a typology of 11 indicators with the most indicative power to evaluate undergraduate programs. The analysis was made using the reports generated by tools such as Word Cruncher, Filter, Object Crawler, Query Tool, Coding Analyzer and Networks. As a relevant conclusion of this study, the 11 proposed indicators have the most indicative power, and are considered more friendly than the183 indicators from the National Accreditation Committee to write self-evaluation reports, and to improve the quality of tertiary education

Masked brands placement’s effects on consumer behavior have not been empirically compared to those produced by actual brands placements –within unreal content productions. Hence, to compare 2 types of placements, a 3 group true (post-test) experiment was conducted. One of 3 expressly developed versions of a HuevoCartoon animation (manipulating the variable Type of placement) was presented to each group to which, the 183 volunteer participants, were randomly assigned. Participants were asked to answer a questionnaire to measure 7 dependent variables concerning: cognitive, emotional and conative effects produced by the stimuli. Results suggest that the difference in the effectiveness of both types of placements is marginal.
