(Universidad Icesi, Facultad de Ciencias Administrativas y Económicas, 2015-07-01) Baena, José Jaime; Cano, Jose Alejandro
This article identifies key information and communication technologies (ICT) used in the international negotiation process, classifying them by phases and functionality. A literature review was conducted in recognized and high impact databases, building with this information a proposal of phases for the international negotiation process, and characterizing ICT by elements such as functionality, business tools, complexity and scope of use, among others. We conclude that there is a wide range of ICT to support the stages of international negotiations, offering various solutions to the specific needs of each company regarding to the management of information and communication.

The purpose of this study is to present a review of research on quality management in Latin-American and Spanish journals published between 2005 and 2013. The study considers managerial focused research written in Spanish or English. The classification of the research considers three elements: the research methodology, the type of application/business sector that served as the basis of the study, and the specific quality management tools/topics addressed by the study. The analysis reveals that although there is significant interest in research related to international standards and the implementation of quality management systems, subjects such as quality management systems based on six sigma methodologies have not received much attention. The study concludes with a discussion of future areas of high potential research that have not generated much discussion.

This article seeks to understand the mechanisms through which the communities start to trust mining companies, and how the individual features moderate the construction of trust judgements from the evaluation of company social and economic performance. A case study was conducted on the basis of factorial surveys in Pozo Almonte in the first region of Chile. The results show that the social license to operate, obtained from trust towards organizations, will depend in the end on the benevolence and integrity of the companies, since in a setting of negative social performances, the economic performances do not generate trust.

This article aims to develop a model to explain consumer loyalty in a service sector through the inclusion of mediating and moderating variables in the analysis of consumer behavior. To test the model a study was carried amongmobile and subscription television consumers in Venezuela. An estimation wasmade using covariance structure models. The research generated a model that demonstrates the importance of using mediating variables (perceived value and trust) in predicting customer loyalty in service environments. The moderating effect of loss aversion is mainly reflected in the perceived value and customer trust, thereby affecting the outcome variables, satisfaction and loyalty.

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the possibility of expanding an integrated network of health services using real options valuation. Four methods for estimating the volatility parameter are analyzed, two of which are applied in real options: Market Asset Disclaimer and Market Approach. Two methods commonly used in financial options are also proposed: implied volatility by Merton model and implied volatility estimated by Newton-Raphson. The results show that the volatility estimated by the proposed methods is similar to that obtained by the traditional Market Asset Disclaimer method. The main contribution of this paper is the construction of the volatility smile for real options, and it is easy to implement.

The objective of this paper is to obtain empirical evidence of the relationship between board structure, ownership composition, and the level of corporate governance transparency in the largest listed companies of Latin America. A correlational study was conducted with a longitudinal analysis using data from the largest listed comanies in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico during the period 2004-2010. The results show that the level of transparency is higher in companies with larger boards and with a higher percentage of independent directors. Meanwhile, the composition of ownership inhibits the level of transparency in corporate governance, while the presence of family shareholders encourages greater disclosure of corporate information.

The objective of this correlational study is to examine the level of industrial relatedness between companies, the acquirer (which is diversifying) and the acquired, at which the stock market’s reaction is more positive. In order to reach that goal, we used event study methodology over several days before and after the announcement of a sample of 460 acquisitions made by U.S. companies in the years 2000 to 2003. The results partially support the hypothesis that a firm’s value increases more sharply when the acquisition announcement involves moderately related firms. Nonetheless, only when the average level of relatedness was low (not being zero) the stock market reaction was more favorable.

The objective of this study is to assess the statistical power and size of 8 normality tests in presence of first-order autoregressive errors and different simple sizes. Using aMonte Carlo experiment, the following tests were compared: Cramér-von Mises, Anderson-Darling, Lilliefors, Pearson, Shapiro-Wilk, ShapiroFrancia, Jarque-Bera and D’Agostino-Pearson. Our results show 4 relevant findings: First, an asymmetrical effect of autocorrelation on the power and size of the tests. Second, the statistical size of all tests is affected by the autocorrelation. Third, none of the tests has greater power than the others. Fourth, the power of the normality test decreases as sample size decreases.

The aim of this paper is to construct a typology of regional innovation capacity and its relationship to entrepreneurial behavior in Mexico. Factor analysis methodology was applied to the principal components in order to check the dimensions formed by the integrated regions, and a cluster analysis for the classification of regions. Five regional groupings were obtained from this procedure in terms of innovative behaviour: non-metropolitan region, small industrial regions, industrial region of medium/high technology, metropolitan region with a diversified structure, and advanced industrial agglomeration. It was concluded that the regions with greater innovation capacity are those that promote greater entrepreneurial development.
