This provides guidelines to justify lighting a managementcompetence to a virtue category, by supporting the manager in the orientation of people’s work towardsthe achievement of common goals. Althoughthere is an academic and business consensus to integrate them into management, the doctrine andthe entrepreneurial praxis do not present adequate technical instruments for its concretion. This factwas verified by bibliographical review and field research in 20 multinational companies. The objec-tive was to create a method based on dialogical ethics, aimed at facilitating the gradual integration ofnon-shareholding stakeholders into decision-making processes as an expression of their participationin corporate governance. The paper is based on a descriptive literature review of the Colombian railways, which allowed toidentify 4 recurring subjects: governmental administrative problems, competition with road mode, coaltransportation, and some technical issues such as geometric design, railway capacity, efficiency, modalintegration, and transport modeling. In addition to the review, which is valuable for decision makerson international trade, economic policy, and regional economy, this paper identifies some questions forfuture research.Ítem Determinantes por cuantiles de la duración del desempleo en Cali y su área metropolitana en el periodo 2012-2014(Universidad Icesi, 2017-04-01) Hernández García, Edwin ArbeyThe main objective is to estimate the determinants of the unemployment periods in Cali (Colombia) and its Metropolitan Area (MA) between 2012-2014, taking into account periods of 8, 16 and 48 weeks. The quantile regression technique has been used, after having corrected the selection bias. The results for Cali MA match Colombia’s recent estimates with regards to the role of education, age, head of household, presence of children under 6 in the household, unpaid activities and the role of women involved. The results also suggest that determinants affect individuals differently for periods of 8, 16 and 48 weeks of unemployment.Ítem Evaluación ex-post de franquicia tributaria SENCE para capacitación laboral y su efecto sobre empresas chilenas(Universidad Icesi, 2017-04-01) Sepúlveda, LuisThis study analyses the impact that a tax credit known as ‘franquicia SENCE’ for labor training has on a sample of Chilean firms. A quasi-experimental method is used to evaluate the impact of this program, using data from the first, second and third wave of the Longitudinal Survey of Firms, applied by the Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas of Chile. Although several previous studies show positive and statistically significant effects on treated workers (employability and/or wages), the results of this study show that this is not completely true at the firm level, since there are no significant impacts on sales and sales growth. Aiming at exploringe the state of knowledge on synergy in the subfield of corporate strategy, this text studies articles published between 2003 and 2015 in academic journals recognized by the Institute for Scientific Information-ISI Web of Science and Scimago. This review differentiates synergy research in the acquisition stage and focuses on the integration stage, where administrative practices are relevant. For that reason, this paper promotes researching synergies from its origin, outcomes, and beneficiaries. However, these studies presented certain limitations, mainly methodological, which gave rise to an intense debate regarding the role of strategy. This paper reviews recent literature on the subject and shows that research has evolved, incorporating new elements and integrating different approaches, thus generating more complete analyzes. By providing a broad view of the subject, this research may be useful for actors involved in the process of turnaround in declining firms; and for academics involved in its study. Furthermore, results enhance our understanding of business failureÍtem Metodología de distribución de plantas en ambientes de agrupación celular(Universidad Icesi, 2017-04-01) Bravo, Juan JoséThis article proposes a plant layout methodology for flexible manufacturing systems, based on quantitative methods used to clustering product families, manufacturing cell formation and finally using multicriteria techniques. Fore product clustering, geometric criteria were taken into account and a modi- fied p-median model was used for the formation of cells. Thus, the appropriate layout of facilities was chosen using the Analytic Hierarchy Process, evaluating different alternatives obtained from the Quadratic Assignment Problem model, which takes into account the desired number of cells to be created and the similarity coefficients used for cell clustering. The aim of this work is to study the characteristics of dynamic wine firms in Chile. This paper presents qualitative research and reports six cases of wine companies, where several variables are analyzed according to Barringer, Jones and Neubaum framework. These variables include prior experience, founders’ knowledge regarding large company management, the use of strategic-planning systems and the use of new technology in the majority of its production. The results of this research could prove insightful for wine entrepreneurs looking to enhance their growth, based on greater differentiation and innovation, and not only on being competitive in pricing
