Ítem Productividad e innovación en pequeñas y medianas empresas(Universidad Icesi, 2019-01-01) Kato Vidal, Enrique LeonardoInnovation is a key component of the competitive advantages of enterprises. The purpose of this paper is to test whether investment in innovation affects the productivity of small and medium-sized enterprises. The innovation-competitiveness relationship was studied in a large sample of companies in Mexico. A regression analysis was applied in two stages to avoid inconsistent estimators. First, the determinants of innovation were established, and then the impact of innovation on productivity was estimated. A positive link was found between innovation and productivity in various manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors. The calculated impact of innovation on productivity is equivalent to the effect of investment in computer equipment.Ítem El modelo binomial, ahorros fiscales y valor ajustado de la firma por escenarios de continuidad o disolución(Universidad Icesi, 2019-01-01) Silverio Milanesi, GastónThe traditional version of the discounted cash flow model does not include contingent values of tax savings and the scenarios of continuity or dissolution that the firm faces. Based on the real options theory, this paper develops a binomial valuation model that includes the contingent treatment for tax savings and the continuity or dissolution scenarios, conditioned by the level of indebtedness. In order to accomplish this, the methodological approach of case study was used, exposing functional relationships and advantages concerning the discounted cash flow. The results indicate that the value of the firm is adjusted to an exponential-type function. The current value obtained resumes contingent tax savings and dissolution or continuity scenarios.Ítem Mediana empresa en Perú: una revisión de las prácticas de presupuesto de capital(Universidad Icesi, 2019-01-01) Tresierra Tanaka, AlvaroThe objective of this article is to know what are the techniques used by medium-sized companies to evaluate their investment projects, and in this way to determine if there is a gap between theory and practice. In addition, we sought to identify which characteristics of the company and its general manager influence the use of these techniques. For this, a survey was elaborated and applied to 126 medium-sized companies in the department of Piura (Peru). Based on this, it was found that a large part of the sample uses at least one technique where cash flows are discounted, which is supported by the theory; therefore, it is evident that the gap between theory and practice is not very wide.Ítem Caracterización de las pymes colombianas y de sus fundadores: un análisis desde dos regiones del país(Universidad Icesi, 2019-01-01) Franco Ángel, MónicaThis research aims to make a description of Colombian small and medium enterprises —SMEs— and their founders. We performed a descriptive research with 384 firms located in the regions of Cundinamarca and Valle del Cauca. The results indicate that most firms are over 48 months old, their average annual sales are up to 1,6 million dollars, and the size of their personnel is up to five times the original size. Their founders, in general, are older than 36 years old, have a solid academic background, and they consider themselves as good leaders.Ítem Estudio Estudio de las motivaciones de los voluntarios corporativos mediante pregunta abierta(Universidad Icesi, 2019-01-01) Yapor, StefaníaThe objective of the research was to identify the motivations of corporate volunteers and analyze whether they depend on personal or contextual factors. Unlike most of the research on this topic, conducted through structured questionnaires, the motivations were studied through open-ended questions. A self-administered survey was applied to 185 volunteers from 8 companies that in Uruguay implement corporate volunteering programs. The results ratified some of the conclusions of the research carried out by closed-ended questions, questioned some others, and provided evidence on motivations not identified in them. It was also found that the motivations are independent of each other, that they are not associated with personal factors of the volunteers, and that significant differences are registered between volunteers from different companies.Ítem Relationship between leadership style, encouragement of budgetary participation and budgetary participation(Universidad Icesi, 2019-01-01) Constâncio Nascimento, Juliana. This study analyzes the relationship between leadership style, encouragement of budgetary participation and budgetary participation of controllers operating in Brazil. A descriptive research, with a quantitative approach, was performed with 316 controllers with budgeting responsibilities in companies operating in Brazil. The findings show a strong relationship between the leadership style and the encouragement of involvement in the budgeting process. However, no direct relationship was found between the leadership style and the budgetary participation. In turn, a positive statistically significant relationship was found between the encouragement of budgetary participation and budgeting participation. The research study concludes that the leadership style can enhance subordinates’ involvement in budgeting through the encouragement of budgetary participation.Ítem Determinantes da evidenciação de indicadores não financeiros de desempenho por clubes brasileiros de futebol(Universidad Icesi, 2019-01-01) Figueira Marquezan, Luiz HenriqueThis article aimed to identify the determinants of voluntary disclosure of non - financial indicators by Brazilian football clubs in their consolidated accounting statements. For this purpose, we analyzed the data of years 2012 to 2014 of the clubs that were at least once in the series A of the Brazilian football league in this period, using correlation and regression analysis. The disclosure of indicators related to human resources is highlighted, due to its greater frequency and diversity. The level of disclosure is positively related to the clubs size, contributing to the profitability of both the current and following period. This research study contributes to discuss nonfinancial indicators disclosed by the clubs, examining aspects related to disclosure levels.Ítem Flujo financiero como determinante de la estructura de capital de las empresas Latinoamericanas(Universidad Icesi, 2019-01-01) Bambino, Antônio CarlosThe overall goal of this paper is to investigate the relationship between financial flow and specific factors as determinants of capital structure in Latin American companies. The main hypothesis of the theoretical construct is the argument that companies with higher levels of financial flow generation have higher levels of indebtedness. This is a descriptive documentary research, with a quantitative approach, tied to a timeframe from 2008 to 2013. For data analysis, a multiple linear regression model with panel data was used. The results showed that the research alternative hypotheses were rejected. However, the set of factors used in the study were highly explanatory of the level of indebtedness and are relevant determinants of capital structure of Latin American companies.
