Participar es asunto de todos. Concepciones y vivencias de la ciudadanía en la escuela en estudiantes de 5 de primaria de la Institución Educativa José Manuel Saavedra Galindo de Cali

La participación como parte de la vida ciudadana tiene un lugar dentro de las habilidades, actitudes y conocimientos que la escuela busca fomentar en los estudiantes. Esta investigación indaga por el conjunto de percepciones y vivencias que los estudiantes de grado 5° de la Institución Educativa José Manuel Saavedra Galindo Sede Nuestra Señora de Fátima, tienen sobre la participación en la escuela. Usando un enfoque cualitativo, se diseñó una secuencia de grupos focales a la manera de 4 talleres en la que participaron 32 estudiantes del grado 5°. La información fue recolectada mediante grabación de voz, video, y diarios de campo, y posteriormente analizada con el objetivo de explicar los alcances de las concepciones y prácticas sobre la participación y la responsabilidad democráticas en la vida escolar de estos estudiantes.

Participation as part of civic life has a place within the skills, attitudes and knowledge that schools seek to promote in students. This research investigates the set of perceptions and experiences that 5th grade students of the José Manuel Saavedra Galindo Sede Nuestra Señora de Fátima school have about participation in school life. Using a qualitative approach based on the design of focus groups, we conducted four workshops with the participation of 32 5th grade students. Information was collected by voice recording, video, and field diaries, later analyzed with the objective of exploring the scope of conceptions and practices on participation and democratic responsibility in the school life of these students. Their perceptions and experiences show understandings that go beyond the processes of school governance, including participation to solve daily problems, the good of the community, and achieving goals such as justice, peace, and coexistence. On the other hand, these experiences also show limited opportunities for practicing collective action to solve problems, and the desire to expand participatory pedagogies in the classroom
