Abstract
The results presented in the report of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) for
2007 legitimize entrepreneurial inclination of Brazilians. The GEM is a very
comprehensive international report on the enterprise activity in a large number of
countries in the world, which is prepared jointly by London Business School, Babson
College, Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and the Brazilian Institute of
Quality and Productivity (IBQP), SEBRAE and IEL in Brazil. However, the 7.5 million
Brazilians that they undertake, 41.6% donot do it voluntarily, but because of necessity.
Unlike the entrepreneur who explores new opportunities, high-tech search and
international markets, the need for entrepreneurship does not create the necessary
conditions to the sustainable growth and the generation of effective national wealth.
