Los determinantes de la decisión de afiliarse al sistema de pensiones en Colombia para el 2011

The importance of the pension system in Colombia is unquestionable, so as for many States. It might be due to its high burden in the nation’s budget, or the discrepancy between the amount of the contribution and the pension received, or for its regressive tendency. The present document aims to study the determinants of various probabilities concerning the enrollment to the pension system. The sample was acquired from the Encuesta Nacional de Calidad de Vida (which translates to Quality of Life National Survey) in 2011. The sample size was reduced in concordance to the main purpose of this project. The variables used were: age, gender, post-secondary educational level and geographical areas (regions). The results obtained after estimating the logit multinomial model are comparable to reality: There is a remarkable gender and educational inequality in Colombia. The accessibility to the pension system also differs among the various regions where the citizens live.
