Abstract

This project presents the plan to create a children’s daycare center for Icesi University. It considers its establishment within the university campus which is located in Calle 18 No. 122-135 in Cali. The daycare center will provide services for boys and girls between the ages of 3 months and 5 years; in the levels: nursery, preschool, pre-kinder, kindergarten; in the schedule from 6:45 am to 6:00 pm. This schedule coincides with parents’ working and studying hours. Within the research process, aspects like market characteristics; technology that should be used and its application to the selected pedagogy; long term investment projection and legal aspects that need to be considered for the daycare center to work accordingly; have been investigated. One of the most important issues of the project deals with determining the size of the daycare center, which is based on the identified demand. The proposal of having it within university campus is submitted due to the advantages for the employees: it is close to the workplace; there are green areas all around; and there are basic services such as water, energy and transportation. The study also considers legal dispositions and regulations to create a daycare center at the University. Issues such as organization structure, administrative personnel, teachers and maintenance are considered as well. The creation of a daycare center, benefits economically and socially, not only parents working at the University, but students who attend Icesi as well. This project will contribute to families, but specially to the employee, to be at ease, knowing that the daycare center will provide care and attention for their children; forming them in values and principles that will help them grow up to be kind and caring men and women.
