Resumen
Diplomatic asylum is a form of international protection whose legal nature has been widely debated. On the one hand, because it is a customary practice with a heterogeneous conventional recognition in the inter-American system and, on the other hand, it has a difficult fit in the common European asylum system. Despite its historical reminiscences, in both geographical latitudes, diplomatic asylum could become a window of opportunity in the face of European fissures of international protection mechanisms in cases of humanitarian emergency. Based on this premise, this article attempts to analyse the peculiarities and differences between diplomatic asylum and other falsely related figures, and thus critically explore the opportunities and limits that it would represent in the common European asylum system itself.
