Resumen

The present research project seeks through the use of technology to increase the motivation of students from two rural educational institutions in Valle del Cauca to learn English focusing on the improvement of listening and speaking skills during the COVID 19 pandemic. For this purpose, a didactic unit was designed taking into account the parameters established by the MEN, the Bloom’s taxonomy and the appropriate digital tools for the context of the students. In addition, some of the proposal activities promoted autonomy for the sake of developing intrinsic motivation. Each of the classes was carried out and analyzed, with the intention of modifying and enhancing the next activities. It is important to highlight that this project started as action research. But, it was determined that it was relevant to describe the whole process in detail and to frame it in a systematization as a research method. By combining technological, pedagogical and human resources, students were more motivated to use the technological tools, showed better performance in speaking and listening skills and were more connected with the classes, for instance more participative and interested in the proposed activities. The use of technology also allowed students to work at their own pace, which was an advantage for autonomous learning, as it was a reinforcement of the class material.
