    The way of measuring pov erty through GDP per capita and the international poverty headcount ratio promote misunderstandings about the meaning of poverty and its perpetuation by disparities in so cio - economic relationships within individuals (Sen, 1999) . According to Debraj (2003) the government ́s public policy will remain insufficient to abolish equitable development barriers. This project exposes the reasons that lead to consider conservative way s for reducing poverty as inefficient and proposes an approach to modernist ways of facing poverty ar ou nd the world. The theories that stand out in this project are: The C apabilities theory from Amartya Sen, and the contemporary way of capitalism as key i ssues to help reduce poverty ar ound the world.
