Ítem Effect of Prolonged Strenuous Exercise on Endothelial Function in Non-Elite Runners(Sociedad Brasileira De Cardiologia, 2010-05-10) Ramírez Escobar, Jorge Hernánresult in an acute depression in endothelial function. However, little is known about the effect of this type of exercise in non-elite runners. Objective: To determine the impact of prolonged strenuous exercise on endothelial function in nonelite runners.Ítem Severe hypotension associated with α blocker tamsulosin.(2013-01-01) Ramírez Escobar, Jorge HernánBenign prostatic hyperplasia is the main cause of lower urinary tract symptoms in men—voiding, storage, or post-micturition symptoms are common to several genitourinary and neurological diseases. Men with these symptoms experience decreased quality of life, depression, and loss of productivity. The prevalence of these symptoms varies from 15% to 60% of men over 40 years of age.1 Worldwide, population ageing is contributing to the increasing burden of benign prostatic hyperplasia. This is accompanied by increasing healthcare costs owing to the growing list of treatment options. The study by Bird and colleagues (doi:10.1136/bmj. f6320) evaluates the safety of one such treatmentÍtem Periodontal treatment effects on endothelial function and cardiovascular disease biomarkers in subjects with chronic periodontitis: protocol for a randomized clinical trial.(2011-02-16) Ramírez Escobar, Jorge HernánBackground Periodontal disease (PD) is an infectious clinical entity characterized by the destruction of supporting tissues of the teeth as the result of a chronic inflammatory response in a susceptible host. It has been proposed that PD as subclinical infection may contribute to the etiology and to the pathogenesis of several systemic diseases including Atherosclerosis. A number of epidemiological studies link periodontal disease/edentulism as independent risk factor for acute myocardial infarction, peripheral vascular disease, and cerebrovascular disease. Moreover, new randomized controlled clinical trials have shown an improvement on cardiovascular surrogate markers (endothelial function, sICAM, hsPCR level, fibrinogen) after periodontal treatment. Nonetheless, such trials are still limited in terms of external validity, periodontal treatment strategies, CONSORT-based design and results consistency/extrapolation. The current study is designed to evaluate if periodontal treatment with scaling and root planning plus local delivered chlorhexidine improves endothelial function and other biomarkers of cardiovascular disease in subjects with moderate to severe periodontitis.Ítem Why Must Physicians Know About Oral Diseases?(Medwell Publishing, 2010-04-01) Arce, RogerProper knowledge of oral diseases is crucial in medical practice due to the following reasons: (a) Periodontal disease is associated with multiple systemic conditions of medical interest, (b) a large number of systemic diseases have oral manifestations, (c) many drugs are associated with oral adverse drug reactions, (d) physicians are generally not sufficiently trained to detect oral cancer manifestations, (e) physicians could play a pivotal role in oral public health, and (f) early detection of oral diseases by physicians could improve the oral health status of the population.Ítem Efectos adversos a medicamentos(Fundación Valle del Lili, 2011-01-01) Ramírez Escobar, Jorge HernánTaller de Farmacovigilancia - Efectos adversos a medicamentos.
