    Design, implementation, and evaluation of didactic sequences with SQ4R strategy to improve reading comprehension skills in english for the students from sixth to ninth grade of IE Ciudad de Cali sede Vásquez Cobo

    The purpose of this action research is to analyze if the Survey, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review (SQ4R) strategy; is effective in helping students at the Ciudad de Cali sede Vásquez Cobo School to enhance reading comprehension skills. This research was carried out with 4 focus groups of 15 students each, from sixth to ninth grade of the school Ciudad de Cali sede Vásquez Cobo. The study was done in two cycles under the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection structure. The two cycles were divided according to the school calendar of the first and second academic periods. The first cycle ran from February 1 to June 16, 2002, and the second cycle began on July 25 and ended on September 3, 2022. Data collection instruments used are survey, observations, research diary and interviews. The teaching material created and used was didactic sequences based on the SQ4R teaching model. The observations were conducted during the months of February to September 2022. In the research diary were registered teacher’s opinions and perceptions of the implementation, and the student’s expressions and reactions of the activities. The results showed that using SQ4R teaching strategy for enhancing students´ reading comprehension skills was effective. In addition to this, it contributed to increase motivation and metacognition in the reading activities in the students, therefore the performance of the students in the English classes also improved.

    Improving writing and reading in english through the eclectic method with fourth grade students.

    This research project was developed in the Agustin Nieto Caballero institution which is a public school with fourth-grade students of primary school and was planned and developed by the English teacher of the morning shift. The project had as its main objective to improve the reading and writing abilities in the English language learning process of students in fourth-grade applying and using some assumptions of the constructivism approach, total physical response, and audiovisual method as an Eclectic Method based on the plan class of the second term. The research was developed over seven weeks and its results show that students were improving their reading and writing abilities through the whole intervention process. Also, it makes the teacher/researcher reflect on their teaching practice and continue developing and planning learning experiences based on the application of the Eclectic Method.

    Las Loas, una expresión cultural afrocolombiana motivadora de la escritura

    Este trabajo de intervención presenta una descripción de cómo las loas –expresiones culturales afrocolombianas- motivan la escritura en estudiantes de segundo grado. Se generó una estrategia -partiendo de las herramientas que el mismo entorno ofrece y que al estudiante le son significativas- y se diseñó e implementó una SD, dando relevancia a las manifestaciones propias de la cultura. Se utilizó como instrumento de análisis la observación, registrando cada momento en un diario de campo, y se determinó que las loas, utilizadas como herramienta didáctica, motivan la escritura en la población estudiada.

    La presente investigación, de corte cualitativo, integra la organización, aplicación y resultado de una secuencia didáctica dispuesta a fortalecer la producción de textos narrativos, específicamente la movilización de la competencia escritora (en los niveles semántico, sintáctico y pragmático), con base en una estrategia protagonizada por la reescritura de fábulas, con la participación de estudiantes de grado noveno-3 de la institución educativa oficial, Jesús Villafañe Franco, en su sede Omaira Sánchez, ubicada en el oriente de la ciudad de Santiago de Cali. Para alcanzar los propósitos se realizó en primera instancia una prueba diagnóstica y una observación de comportamientos durante las clases, para determinar las condiciones de los estudiantes en lo referente a los niveles de la competencia escritora que se busca potenciar. Los estudiantes fueron protagonistas de una secuencia didáctica que incluía la planeación de múltiples actividades con principios pedagógicos y temáticas contextualizadas.

    Esta tesis de grado de Maestría en Educación recoge los resultados de una investigación que estuvo orientada al fortalecimiento de habilidades de lectoescritura mediante una secuencia didáctica en estudiantes con capacidades diferenciadas de la Institución Educativa Villacarmelo, zona rural de la ciudad de Cali. La investigación estuvo animada por el permanente interés de repensar el ejercicio pedagógico y las practicas evaluativas en la enseñanza de la lectoescritura en un grupo de estudiantes que presentaban dificultades de aprendizaje y que pertenecen al Programa de Inclusión y Escuela Regular en la institución educativa en mención.

    Implementation of the new school approach teaching guides in a public rural elementary school to improve reading and writing skills of english language

    The current research project is a qualitative case study developed in the I. E. El Placer in Guadalajara de Buga, Valle del Cauca. This is a rural public institution composed of thirteen branches in the mountains of the municipality. The study was done with the intention to determine the improvement of fifth graders’ reading and writing English skills by using the learning guides designed under the “New School” pedagogical approach during the first period of the 2022 school year. In order to achieve the project objectives, a pre-test and a post-test were applied to nineteen students; four learning guides were designed following the parameters of New School pedagogical approach, and direct class observation was done during the development of the activities proposed in the learning guides. Based on the comparisons of the results between the pre-test and the post-test, almost all the students evidenced improvement in their performance after the implementation of the four learning guides. During the implementation of the four learning guides, the students showed interest in their elaboration, likewise, they were committed to the activities proposed in the learning guides.
