A large industrial company routed to achieve the
environmental management certification (ISO
14001) got affected the process by the finding
a Tree –about to collapse– in a community
park adjacent to its facilities. The study of
the situation determines the presence of two
transformers, stored in the firm maintenance area.
An examination of its level of polychlorinated
biphenyls (PCBs) shows that 13 gallons have
been leaked, contaminating soil and likely to
have reached the sewer system of the city. The
community is alarmed, the media involved and the
company must make improvement plans imposed
by the environmental authority. Due to the fact,
changes occur within the company and the level
of development, new projects and expansion
plans abroad are suspended.
