Resumen
Abstract
Based on the experience with internship students, the CEDEP (Center for Professional Development at Icesi University in Cali, Colombia) it has been found that the leadership style of immediate managers is one of the aspects involved in the performance during the first work experience. This exploratory research shows which management leadership styles (based on information gathered in questionnaires regarding two perceptions: the boss’s perception and the intern’s perception of his/her boss) are most closely related to the performance of internship students. One of the conclusions is that the more the students perceive that their bosses have leadership styles with multiple qualities (such as, e.g. guiding, participative, goal-oriented, and thoughtful) the better their performance during the internship will be.
