Ítem Corporate governance index in emerging markets: Peruvian listed companies(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2016-01-01) Berggrun Preciado, LuisCompanies are wishing to incorporate good corporate governance practices into their organization in order to be more attractive to investors, knowing whether this influences their financial indicators and profitability or not. This, in fact, is beneficial for investors so they know that a company who applies the principles of corporate governance (CG) presents best management practices and transparent information, safeguarding the interests of all its stakeholders, which helps their investment decision; reducing market uncertainty, making it more efficient and liquid. The research focuses on the companies listed in the Stock Exchange of Lima that had implemented CG strategies in their organizationsÍtem Performance persistence: The case of Colombia’s pension and severance pay funds(Departamento de Administración de la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Administrativas de la Universidad de Chile, 2011-01-01) Jaramillo, FernandoThis paper studies performance persistence for mandatory, voluntary and severance pay funds in Colombia. We test for persistence in terms of raw and style-adjusted returns for consecutive and mul - tiple periods. This document also explores whether an investor following strategies based on persistence can attain statistical and economically significant excess returns. Our results indicate the presence of performance persistence for some funds in the very short run. However, investors pursuing portfolio strategies based on this sort of predictability would have been unable to obtain significant excess returns. More importantly, these findings support the notion of weak-form market efficiency.Ítem Price transmission dynamics between ADRs and their underlying foreign security: The case of Banco de Colombia S.A.- Bancolombia.(Universidad Icesi, 2005-10-01) Berggrun Preciado, LuisThis paper analyzes the dynamics ofthe American Depositary Receipt (ADR) of a Colombian bank (Bancolombia) in relation to its pricing factors (underlying (preferred) shares price, exchange rate and the US market index). The aim is to test if there is a long-term relation among these variables that would imply predictability. One cointegrating relation is found allowing the use of a vector error correction model to examine the transmission of shocks to the underlying prices, the exchange rate, and the US market index. The main finding of this paper is that in the short run, the underlying share price seems to adjust after changes in the ADR price, pointing to the fact that the NYSE (trading market for the ADR) leads the Colombian market. However, in the long run, both, the underlying share price and the ADR price, adjust to changes in one another.Ítem Caso de estudio. Furthermore, we present a methodology based on principal components that can aid affiliates when selecting funds. Moreover, we examine two portfolio optimization methodologies to evaluate any performance improvements in an evaluation period when choosing a particular methodology. The first one suggested by Markowitz (1952) and the second by Reveiz and Leon (2008b). We find an increase in risk, using several metrics, of mandatory and voluntary pension funds as well as a set of funds that better characterize the common movement of funds’ returns. At the end, several indicators were reviewed to measure the impact on profitability, risk, correlation, and trading volume between markets, using indicators such as: annual profitability, standard deviation, correlation coefficient, and trading volume. The sample period runs from November 2008 to August 2013; and involves the three stock markets associated with MILA: Bolsa de Comercio de Santiago (BCS), Bolsa de Valores de Colombia (BVC) y Bolsa de Valores de Lima (BVL). An additional evaluation for further research would consist of the calculation of relevant indicators to corroborate the validity of the effects found in this investigation corresponding to the integration of the stock exchanges of Lima, Santiago and Bogota, after the integration of the Mexican stock exchange that occurred in 2014. © 2015 Universidad ESAN.Ítem Dividend payout policies: Evidence from Latin America(Elsevier, 2016-05-01) Berggrun Preciado, LuisThis paper examines dividend payout policies for firms in six Latin American countries from 1995 to 2013. As predicted by the pecking order and trade-off models, the dividend payout is positively linked to profitability and negatively related to past indebtedness and investment opportunities. We also find that the target dividend payout ratio is positively related to governance indicators at the country level. In addition, the speed to which firms adjust their dividends to changes in earnings is lower in high governance countries in the region. Thus, firms smooth dividends more in countries with higher governance scores. We do not find evidence supporting the lifecycle theory nor illiquidity effects on dividends levels.Ítem Valoración binomial de opciones financieras(Universidad Icesi, 2011-12-01) Berggrun Preciado, LuisThis teaching note discusses the valuation of European and American financial options.
