Evaluación experimental de la capacidad de IEEE 802.11b para soporte de VoIP
(Universidad Icesi, 2007-03-08T22:17:26Z) Agredo Méndez, Guefry Leider; Gaviria Molano, Jaime Andrés
Wireless LAN have been widely deployed worldwide using Technologies based on 802.11b/g standards mainly. But, those networks do not provide any support for QoS demanding services because the most of them were deployed before the 802.11e standard. However, in many places the need for QoS demanding services, like Voice over IP, has aroused and it is important to establish how those services will behave in Non QoS supporting WLAN’s. This papers shows experimental results for a testbed, intended to establish the capacity of a legacy 802.11 LAN to support VoIP services.

This paper presents the state of art on agriculture software, specially software that make use of wireless connectivity and mobility in order to provide some benefits to producers and farmers. We explain the development process for agriculture software, developed by the authors and funded by SENA.

Impacts of mobility on wireless access to IPv6 networks
(Universidad Icesi, 2007-03-08T22:00:57Z) Lazo, Christian (Autor); Glöckler, Roland
The project “AIRE 6 - Wireless Access to IPv6 Networks” generated a hot spot of wireless Internet access using Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g) in a native IPv6 environment. The setup of the project enables end-to-end connectivity using global public addresses. By incorporating mobility mechanisms of Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6), it allows scenarios always-on with mobility functions. Client connections are managed with efficient AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) mechanisms that had to be developed for the project due to the absence of adequate solutions. Within the project administrable APs were enhanced with native IPv6 support. Among the results of the project is an analysis of the impacts on delay and data rates caused by client mobility in best effort environments. The results obtained will help to improve technical conditions for the use of mobile Internet with the full potential of IPv6.

Evaluación del estimador de capacidad AdHoc Probe en redes MANET contráfico cursado autosimilar
(Universidad Icesi, 2007-03-08T21:54:43Z) Salamanca, María del Pilar; Peña, Néstor Misael
Due to the dynamic nature of ad hoc networks, the path capacity estimation process is much more complex than in wired networks. AdHoc Probe is a capacity estimator based on the packet-dispersion concept. To evaluate end-to-end path capacity, AdHoc Probe sends pairs of packets and takes into account only those pairs with minimum delay. It is widely known that traffic in current networks has self similar nature and recent works show that ad hoc networks exhibit this feature too. In this paper, using an implementation of AdHoc Probe in QualNetR, we evaluate the performance of AdHoc Probe when the network has self similar cross traffic and we validate the results of previous works with Poisson cross traffic.

Modelo de simulación de la capa MAC IEEE 802.16-2004 para modo Mesh
(Universidad Icesi, 2007-03-08T21:50:16Z) Sierra, Javier Emilio; Bustamante Miller, Roberto; Betancur, Leonardo; Hincapié Reyes, Roberto Carlos
IEEE 802.16-2004 standard supports mesh networks topology and its important to realize the performance of such systems. Simulation of communication systems allows its optimization in performance measures. In this article we present a model developed over Network Simulator 2 to simulate data link layer operation in mesh topologies based on that standard. We present the results based on a link scheduler and the model developed, as the mean queue length, mean queue delay and the system capacity for different topologies.

Plataforma de acceso universal a mensajería instantánea móvil

One of the most succesful services is Instant Messaging (IM), due to the versatility and simplicity offered to users. Because of the success of mobile telephony, new horizons have been developed for IM. However, the diversity existing in protocols and transport technologies have lead the technology to a low interoperability environment. This papers describes a platform called PAUMIM , because its spelling in Spanish, proposed by our research group, that allows the communication between different providers of IM services using mobile devices.

This article details of general way the advance of a masters thesis developed within the framework of the Group of Investigation, Development and Application in Telecommunications and Informatics (GIDATI) af the Pontifical Bolivariana University. First stage of the project consists on the classification of wireless channel models and the identification of which they apply to the work conditions of the systems defined by the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard. The second phase corresponds to the comparative analysis of these models and to their implementation in the ICS Telecom software of the French company ATDI in order to optimize some processes related to the design of these networks. The results have allowed to date deducing some important conclusions and to contribute to support other research and development activities in execution currently
