Entorno para el diseño y la práctica con instrumentos quirúrgicos virtuales (WESST-IN)

This work presents a system which allows medicine practitioners to model, to manipulate and to use virtual surgical instruments. The system allows operations like upgrade, modification and inclusion of new surgical instruments; also, it has a graphic interface which facilitates learning and an understandable help system for the final user. This tool contributes to the learning of surgical instrument manipulation for medicine students. On the other hand, the implementation of the system in a WEB environment allows its use by remote practitioners via internet.

It is between culture that we found similarities around which we have built strong differences, and we solve everyday experience in the semiological discourse, due that each culture is essentially a world lecture.

Latin America is now the region with the highest growth rate in the telecommunications sector worldwide, and Colombia is one of the countries in this region. An increasing concern has been raised regarding the potential biological effects of radiation associated with these applications. In response to these concerns, the Colombian Ministry of Communications has adopted limits of human exposure to electromagnetic fields following UIT-T K.52 recommendation as a reference guideline. This report undoubtedly makes valuable contributions to the methodology for measuring emissions within a frequency range that encompasses a considerable number of telecommunications applications under (populational) human exposure conditions.

Alineamiento de múltiples secuencias de aminoácidos usando algoritmos genéticos
(Universidad Icesi, 2006-10-11) Solanilla, Luis Felipe
This article describes a genetic algorithm and its implementation that it allows the alignment of multiple sequences of amino acids by means of relocations that simulate the gaps insertion (holes) and actions of recombination to obtain higher scores in the alignment. Such scores are obtained by means of the method of the sum of even, in which there are considered all the possible combinations of amino acids in each column of the alignment and they are qualified being based on the punctuations of the matrix BLOSUM62.

This paper makes part of an investigation development about the relief influence in the radio wave propagation for an urban environment working in the UHF band used in the actual mobile communications systems as TDMA (800Mhz), CDMA1x (850Mhz) y GSM (900Mhz),

For more than a year now, the Radio GIS Research Group, assisted by the Schools of Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering (E3T) at UIS, together with other local research groups (i.e. ICESI´s I2T, UFPS’s GIDT, and UDI’s MAXWELL, and the Colombian Ministry of Communications have been conducting a number of studies on high-frequency electromagnetic radiation under outdoor conditions to determine acceptable human exposure levels to this kind of radiation. These studies are driven not only by academic interest in this subject, but also by concerns raised by communities in the city of Bucaramanga and other regions in Colombia with respect to the installation of a large number of radiocommunications stations. With this paper, the Radio GIS group makes some contributions, which will hopefully benefit both the population in general and the regulatory agencies, aiming at establishing control policies based on concrete theoretical and technical studies. The results of the studies discussed in this paper derive from previous research conducted in the field of electromagnetic propagation
