Abstract
This project evaluates the socioeconomic potential of integrating the biomaterial developed by Universidad Icesi — from chontaduro shells and sugarcane bagasse — into the chontaduro value chain, combining technological innovation with social impact. Its objectives include assessing the biomaterial’s Technology Readiness Level, designing a techno - economic plan, and proposing socio - environmental development actions in producing regions such as Putumayo and Cauca — areas afflicted by illicit crop cultivation and multidimensional poverty — where chontaduro offers a legal alternative to strengthen rural economies, generate employment, and reduce structural vulnerabilities. Using life cycle assessment (LCA), social life cycle assessment (S - LCA), and circular business models, the project aims to demonstrate that this innovati on not only mitigates environmental impacts ( – 57 % carbon footprint versus EPS) but also promotes inclusive and regenerative territorial development.
