In this document, we present some theoretical aspects of the labor market, considering the different approaches of the Economic theory to analyze the interactions between workers and firms. Moreover, we make a statistical analysis of the labor market situation in Colombia, emphasizing its main current problems. This analysis includes a simple Logit model to examine the relationship between the probability of being unemployed and different socioeconomic variables. Finally, we present the policies commonly used to reduce the unemployment: supply-side policies, demand-side policies and sectorial policies.
