Its most frequently observed clinical characteristics include mental retardation, growth retardation, craniofacial malformations, including long ears, microcephaly and short neck; other less frequent associated malformations include holoprosencephaly. Case report: We present two patients with deletion of the short arm of chromosome 18, one presented a de no vo muta tion and the other was produced by a balanced translocation 6p/18p of maternal origin. Both patients presented alobar holoprosencephaly and cebocephaly, low-frequency clinical characteristics in this syndrome. Discussion: alobar holoprosencephaly is a malformation appearing in 10% of patients with deletion of the short arm of chromosome 18; we review the probable physiopathology of holoprosencephaly in this syndrome. © 2010 Universidad del Valle, Facultad de Salud.Ítem 2-Bromo-N-(2-hy-droxy-5-methyl-phen-yl)-2-methyl-propanamide.(International Union of Crystallography, 2011-09-01) Grande Tovar, CarlosIn the title mol-ecule, C(11)H(14)BrNO(2), there is twist between the mean plane of the amide group and the benzene ring [the C-N-C-C torsion angle is -172.1 (2)°]. The amide H atom forms an intra-molecular hydrogen bond with the Br atom. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H⋯O and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link mol-ecules into a chain along [100].Ítem 3-D structure of the Rio Grande Rift from 1-D constrained joint inversion of receiver functions and surface wave dispersion(Elsevier, 2014-01-01) Romero, RodrigoThe Southern terminus of the Rio Grande Rift region has been poorly defined in the geologic record, with few seismic studies that provide information on the deeper Rift structure. In consequence, important questions related to tectonic and lithospheric activity of the Rio Grande Rift remain unresolved. To address some of these geological questions, we collect and analyze seismic data from 147 EarthScope Transportable Array (USArray) and other seismic stations in the region, to develop a 3-D crust and upper mantle velocity model. We apply a constrained optimization approach for joint inversion of surface wave and receiver functions using seismic S wave velocities as a model parameter. In particular, we compute receiver functions stacks based on ray parameter, and invert them jointly with collected surface wave group velocity dispersion observations. The inversions estimate 1-D seismic S-wave velocity profiles to 300 km depth, which are then interpolated to a 3-D velocity model using a Bayesian kriging scheme. Our 3-D models show a thin lower velocity crust anomaly along the southeastern Rio Grande Rift, a persistent low velocity anomaly underneath the Colorado Plateau and Basin and Range province, and another one at depth beneath the Jemez lineament, and the southern RGR.Ítem A ‘slow pace of life’ in Australian old-endemic passerine birds is not accompanied by low basal metabolic rates(Springer Verlag, 2016-05-01) Buttemer, William A.Life history theory suggests that species experiencing high extrinsic mortality rates allocate more resources toward reproduction relative to self-maintenance and reach maturity earlier (‘fast pace of life’) than those having greater life expectancy and reproducing at a lower rate (‘slow pace of life’). Among birds, many studies have shown that tropical species have a slower pace of life than temperate-breeding species. The pace of life has been hypothesized to affect metabolism and, as predicted, tropical birds have lower basal metabolic rates (BMR) than temperate-breeding birds. However, many temperate-breeding Australian passerines belong to lineages that evolved in Australia and share ‘slow’ life-history traits that are typical of tropical birds. We obtained BMR from 30 of these ‘old-endemics’ and ten sympatric species of more recently arrived passerine lineages (derived from Afro-Asian origins or introduced by Europeans) with ‘faster’ life histories. The BMR of ‘slow’ temperate-breeding old-endemics was indistinguishable from that of new-arrivals and was not lower than the BMR of ‘fast’ temperate-breeding non-Australian passerines. Old-endemics had substantially smaller clutches and longer maximal life spans in the wild than new arrivals, but neither clutch size nor maximum life span was correlated with BMR. Our results suggest that low BMR in tropical birds is not functionally linked to their ‘slow pace of life’ and instead may be a consequence of differences in annual thermal conditions experienced by tropical versus temperate species. © 2016, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.Ítem A 3D Game Tool for Mobile Networks Planning(IEEE, 2010-02-10) Madriñán, PatriciaIn this work, we show the concept of serious game applied to a 3D game for mobile planning. We combine the use of a traditional planning tool with a 3D game engine, representing propagation models as "avatars". The tool allows to execute an initial planning and also to "play" a game according to "missions" like perform a planning with a coverage objective.Ítem A 40-Year-Old Patient With Autoimmune Hepatitis And Portopulmonary Hypertension With Miliary Tuberculosis. Challenges Of Drug Treatment: A Case Report(American Lung Association, 2016-01-01) Fernández, LilianaAutoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a rare disease with prevalence of 1.07-1.9 per 100.000 in Europe affects preferentially females and is characterized by idiopathic hepatitis, increased seric gamma globulins, and circulating non-organ-specific antibodies and the comerstone of the therapy is immunosuppression. The complications of AIH are the same as in any other chronic liver disease including hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) and portopulmonary hypertension (PPH). We discuss a case report of PPH and milliary tuberculosis (tb) and interactions between sildenafil and antituberculosis treatment.Ítem A case for assessing ethics and CSR in master’s programs. From Universidad Icesi(Greenleaf Publishing Limited, 2016-01-01) Benitez Salcedo, Edgar OrlandoEthics and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is one of the key topics in the learning objectives of all master’s programs at Icesi’s Business School. Alumni from these programs should be able to judge the personal, organizational and social implications of the decisions they make as well as the ethical responsibilities associated with those decisions. This case describes how the business school has assessed the level of achievement related to this learning objective. We focus on the challenge of assessing such topics outside the Ethics and CSR classrooms in order to avoid social desirability bias. We addressed this challenge by developing a case study presented to students in their last semester, which simulates an everyday managerial decision. The case includes a range of activities that allow for evaluation of the reflexive process involved in dealing with the dilemmas that arise when choosing an appropriate business partner and when managing crises.Ítem A cohort-based analysis of the influence of minimum wage levels on the labor force participation in the informal sector: quantitative and substitution effects(Universidad Icesi, 2010-12-01) Muro, JuanThis paper discuses the effect of the minimum wage on the decision to join the informal job sector. We estimated a pseudo panel of the engagement in the informal sector using an IV-probit. The findings show that an increase in the minimum wage leads to a substitution effect between young and older workers. This results show that the standards effects over the labor market in the WGM segmented model are moderate because an increase of the minimum wage doesn’t imply total mobility between sectors.Ítem A Comparison of Taxonomies for Model Transformation Languages(Universidad de los Andes, 2010-01-01) Tamura Morimitsu, GabrielSince the introduction of the MDE/MDA/MDD ideas for software systems development several years ago, a number of different (meta)modeling and model transformation languages have been proposed. Although the OMG's QVT standard specification has somewhat stabilized the number of new model transformation languages, it is likely that new ones will continue to appear, following different paradigms and approaches. However, the evolution towards the consolidation of models as a unifying, foundational and consistent concept for software-intensive system development, requires the realization of a set of ideal characteristics for the specification of model transformation languages. Several works have been proposed for defining characterization and classification schemes, and the set of these ideal characteristics.Ítem A decision support tool for healthcare providers to evaluate readiness and impacts of adopting supply chain data standards(Taylor & Francis, 2013-03-01) Varghese, VijithHealthcare providers are under increasing pressure to reduce waste, eliminate unnecessary costs and redundant efforts, thereby improving the quality and consistency of healthcare delivery. Lack of automation and the lack of use of global identifiers for products and locations, also known as supply chain data standards, are two critical factors that can help streamline providers operations and improve process efficiency. Despite widespread consensus among various stakeholders, healthcare providers lack a well-defined approach towards adopting and implementing data standards. Supply chain data standards can be defined as a set of product and location identifiers which are used in supply chain related processes and transactions.Ítem A discrete choice model approximation to the consumer's choice among television displays(Universidad de Alcalá, 2013-09-01) González Espitia, Carlos GiovanniThe consumer’s choice over a bundle of products dep ends on the observable and unobservable characteristics of the product and the consumer. The choice is made over the basis of maximizing utility subject to their in come restrictions and, at the same time, firms make product differentiation decisions over t he basis of maximizing profit. Quality is one way to differentiate products. An example of this type of differentiation happens in the TV market where several displays are develop ed. Our objective is to determine the probability for a consumer of choosing a type o f display among five kinds: standard tube, LCD, plasma, projection and LED. Using a mult inomial logit, we find that electronic appliances such as DVDs and audio system s, as well as socioeconomic status, increase the probability of choosing a high -tech display television. Our empirical approximation contributes to the further understand ing of consumer rational behavior through the theory utility maximization and highlig hts the importance of studying the market structure and analyzing changes in welfare a nd efficiency.Ítem A Farewell to Arms : The Challenge of Studying Politics by Former Rebels in Colombia(Universidad de Hiroshima, 2009-01-01) Rouvinski, VladimirThis paper is a result of an investigation that was carried out by the Interdisciplinary Research Center (CIES) of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of Icesi University in Cali, Colombia, as a part of a broader project under the auspices of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Colombia, to study the cases of best practices to overcome the conflict. These cases have been organized in a public database, which is maintained by UNDP3 .Ítem A flexible mid-term frequency domain scheduler for resource allocation in Hetnets based on the SINR requested by users(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2014-11-05) Navarro Cadavid, AndrésThis article solves the resource allocation problem for the downlink of a multi-cell, multiservice Wireless Mobile Communications System (WMCS) with heterogeneous architecture deployed into an urban environment using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) in its physical level. The optimization model aims to equitably satisfy services to users by making an efficient use of the available resources using the Signal to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (SINR). It is a Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) model whose solution is complex to obtain directly. The proposed solution algorithm decouples the solution space of the problem and uses an iterative and distributed approach to implement a frequency-domain scheduler in the medium term that uses a global vision of the system to allocate resources trying to obtain the SINR required for all users (the proposed goal). Since it is not always possible to achieve the proposed goal, we take advantage of the elasticity of some of the services offered and incorporating the slack variable ΔPref to solve it. The approach allows selecting the frequency allocation strategy, the exploration focus of the search space and the system administrator's vision.Ítem A flexible mid-term frequency domain scheduler for resource allocation in HetNets based on the SINR requested by users(Elsevier, 2015-03-01) Pachón de la Cruz, AlvaroThis article treats the resource allocation problem for the downlink of a multi-cell, multiservice Wireless Mobile Communications System (WMCS) with heterogeneous architecture deployed into an urban environment using Long Term Evolution (LTE) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) in its physical level. The optimization model aims to satisfy services to users by making an efficient use of the available resources, and a fair frequency block allocation, using the Signal to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (SINR). It is a Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) model whose solution is complex to obtain directly. The proposed solution algorithm decouples the solution space of the problem and uses an iterative and semi-distributed approach to implement a frequency-domain scheduler in the medium term that uses a global vision of the system to allocate resources trying to obtain the SINR required for all users (the proposed goal). Since it is not always possible to achieve it, we take advantage of the elasticity of some of the services offered and incorporate a slack variable to solve it. The approach allows selecting the frequency allocation strategy, the exploration focus of the search space and the system administrator's vision. The results obtained show that the implementation that uses a coordinated frequency allocation obtains better results in the amount of users with full satisfaction and in the use of power when compared to implementations using other frequency allocation strategies. In scenarios with heterogeneous architecture, the combined effect of picocells and coordinated frequency allocation improves the value for the defined performance metrics.Ítem A guide to best practices for the transition from ipv4 to ipv6(Universidad Icesi., 2015-10-01) Roa G., Mario AlejandroEste artículo presenta una propuesta de guía de buenas prácticas para asistir a las áreas de Tecnología de la In-formación [TI] en los procesos de planeación e implementación de la transición de sus servicios de infraestructura y tecnología hacia el protocolo IPv6. Based on panel data estimations for subsidiaries of European multinational companies with a presence in Spain, the authors found that if the subsidiary is located in the springboard country, then the performance improvement (increase in profit margin) of the subsidiary is about 49 percentage points. When the Spanish subsidiary is considered a springboard subsidiary, its performance is 7.7 percentage points higher than the performance of other subsidiaries that are not springboard subsidiaries. If the subsidiary has a technological relationship with another subsidiary, its performance is 6.7 percentage points higher than the performance of other subsidiaries that do not have a technological relationship. Finally, when the firm has low autonomy, the performance of the subsidiary is 6.2 percentage points lower than that of firms that are independent or have a high level of autonomy. © Author(s) 2015.Ítem A Model to Guide Dynamic Adaptation Planning in Self-Adaptive Systems(Elsevier, 2016-03-14) Arboleda Jiménez, Hugo FernandoSelf-adaptive enterprise applications have the ability to continuously reconfigure themselves according to changes in their execution contexts or user requirements. The infrastructure managing such systems is based on IBM's MAPE-K reference model: a Monitor and an Analyzer to sense and interpret context data, a Planner and an Executor to create and apply structural adaptation plans, and a Knowledge manager to share relevant information. In this paper we present a formal model, built on the principles of constraint satisfaction, to address dynamic adaptation planning for self-adaptive enterprise applications. We formalize, modify and extend the approach presented in [H. Arboleda, J. F. Díaz, V. Vargas, and J.-C. Royer, "Automated reasoning for derivation of modeldriven spls," in SPLC'10 MAPLE'10, 2010, pp. 181-188] for working with self-adaptation infrastructures in order to provide automated reasoning on the dynamic creation of structural adaptation plans. We use a running example to demonstrate the applicability of such model, even in situations where complex interactions arise between context elements and the target self-adaptive enterprise application.Ítem A multicriteria approach to sustainable energy supply for the rural poor(Elsevier, 2012-05-01) Cherni, Judith A.Despite significant progress in energy technology, about two billion people worldwide, particularly the poor in rural areas of developing countries, have no access to electricity. Decision-making concerning the most appropriate energy technology for supplying these areas has been difficult; existing energy decision-support tools have been useful but are mostly incomplete. Trade-offs, as well as impacts that can be positive or negative, may emerge as a result of implementing modern forms of energy. These can affect both community's livelihoods as well as the confidence of decision-makers in relation to alternative technologies. The paper discusses a newly designed multicriteria approach and its novel robustness analysis for selecting energy generation systems for the improvement of livelihoods in rural areas. The proposed methodology builds upon a sustainable rural livelihoods framework to address multiple interactions and calculate trade-offs aimed at boosting decision-makers' confidence in the selected technologies. The methodology is tested via a case study in Colombia. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
