In addition, it aimed to explore the teachers’ perceptions and experiences implementing Dynamic Assessment with young EFL students. The data for this qualitative grounded theory study was collected through online questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations of the 16 teacher participants. There were two other participants who represented the institution, and they were interviewed in order to assess the School’s proposals and expectations. The data collected was analyzed with computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software, NVivo, and subjected to the three levels of analysis adopted from Urquhart (2013). The findings indicated that (a) primary EFL teachers in this institution have positive perceptions and experiences of their implementation of Dynamic Assessment as an Alternative Assessment approach to evaluation. (b) There is a partial alignment of the teachers’ practice of Alternative Assessment and the proposal of the institution, therefore, more training is required for new teachers to ensure that the School’s proposal is met by all the primary teachers. (c) Teachers are aware of the need to have more frequent and differentiated training sections to successfully carry out the school’s innovative assessment proposal.Ítem The role of cooperative learning in promoting spoken English with ninth grade students at Isaias Hernan Ibarra public school in Cali(Universidad Icesi, 2017-01-01) Rincón Rivera, María Fernanda; Simpson, JoEllen; Asesor TesisCooperative Language Learning (CLL) is an instructional method that has had an impact on research literature about education and teaching practice. Cooperative learning (CL) is defined as “the instructional use of small groups through which students work together to maximize their own and each other’s learning” (Johnson, Johnson & Holubec, 1994, p. 4). CL meth od is more than simply group work, which may not be cooperative in itself. Learning is dependent on the student s ' interaction, their accountability and motivation to increase their mutual learning outcomes (Olsen & Kagan, 1992, in Richards & Rogers, 2001). A., Tito Nelson; Asesor TesisThis study aims to provide an analysis of the effects of noticing on the oral performance of a group of EFL beginners by employing a focus task. This study carried out a statistical analysis (descriptive analysis and Wilcoxon test) of the number of language gaps the participants identified in their own oral performance, along with an analysis of students perceptions about noticing, procedures and results of the focus task. The purpose of both analyses was to determine if the focus task enhanced noticing, leading to any improvement in participants oral task repetition. The results revealed this task enhanced noticing, which generated improvements in content, grammar, and vocabulary in oral production. However, even though participants noticed a significant number of pronunciation gaps in their first oral presentation, this did not lead to learning in the task repetition.Ítem Attributions for success and failure to complete the english as a foreign language program at icesi university(Universidad Icesi, 2015-07-01) Buitrago Ruiz , Maritza; Díaz Mejía, Diana Margarita; Asesor TesisThis study aims to provide an analysis of the casual attributions for success or failure in learning English as a foreign language, of a group of students who were in different courses of the language at Icesi University. This study carried out a statistical analysis of the number of levels of English subjects had passed based on their attributions for their success and failure. The purpose of the researcher was to determine those specific attributions and their influence in the fact of passing or failing the eight levels of English. Results revealed some significant differences between the two groups regarding their attributions to success or failure. Learners, who were more successful in passing the different English levels, used learning strategies which were goal-oriented and they believed they had the ability to learn the language. On the other hand, the group that was less successful attributed it to external factors, the teacher, the methodology, the class environment and finally luck.Ítem Do e-portfolios benefit writing skills(Universidad Icesi, 2015-07-01) Gómez Salazar, Alexandra; Simpson, JoEllen; Asesor TesisPara los estudiantes de Icesi es importante desarrollar las habilidades necesarias para que sean eficientes en el uso y manejo del inglés.
